i have seen a de-orbit myself, its quite spectacualr, you can hear it slightly as it comes lower

Couldn't they land it there instead though

Just seems a bit weird

they cant land it because of fuel issues, they need to expend a lot of energy to slow down

they dont have the budget for self landing sats

plus it costs a lot of money to re-purpose sats

its cheaper to build new ones

spaceX do retrieve some of their rocket, they bring back the main stage and land it for re-use

im yet to go and see that

its hard to slow down something travelling at 17,000 km/h

i heard some guys arguing that if the earth was really spinning then if you were hovering in a helecopter then the earth would travel under you, could you tell me anything about that? @Kessler Syndrome

@baritheloser when you are in a car travelling at a constant speed of 60mph, and you throw a ball in the air, the ball will land back into your hand, this is due to relativity

the accelleration of the earth is nill

therefore we do not feel the accelleration
