I am surprised that "conspiracy" is thought of as synonymous with untrue
It is basically an agreement between 2+ people to commit an illegal act, along with intent to achieve the goals of the agreement, one way of stating it.
For example,  the CIA program of systematic torture.
But thanks to the CIA, "conspiracy theorist" becomes a pejorative for ridicule
