Those reflections are actually that old method of having another model of the character on the other side, while the floor texture is just a little transparent.

(not that it makes it any less spectacular)

I was messing with it the other week ago, making the floor / walls more transparent to make them shiny. xD

off course they had to use cheap methods @Sexy Zombie Roo

the PS2 had cheap hardware lol

still, the final product looks amazing for its time

doing such thing without using cheap tricks would require you to use raytracing

and you can forget about any realtime or 60 FPS, even with current highend hardware if you use that, even for low poly games like MGS2

it's like that old duke nukem reflection trick

the mirror is an invisible wall and behind it is a copy of the room and a duplicate of the player
