just the price of the cell processor at that time was around 800 bucks

2017-06-11 23:12:46 UTC

it was a powerpc arch with 8 physicals cores back in 2006...

2017-06-11 23:13:39 UTC

I heard a lot of games ran better on the X360 than the PS3

2017-06-11 23:14:08 UTC

if you want, we can talk about architecture and SDK optimizations, that's not the point though

2017-06-11 23:14:25 UTC

Heard a lot of issues with the cell processor and split memory

2017-06-11 23:14:56 UTC

again, that's not the point, but if you want to know it was mostly an issue with multi platform games

2017-06-11 23:15:31 UTC

games developped especially for the PS3 didn't had any issue and ran better than xbox360 exclusives

2017-06-11 23:16:49 UTC

it's hard to do the comparisons but TFLOPS, etc was above on the PS3, it suffered from a not so good SDK in the beginning though and had issue with multi platform game engines that were poorly optimized

2017-06-11 23:18:04 UTC

but again, that's another story. I'm talking about the hardware price and why the "X1 X" (stupid name but whatever) price will probably stall a bit based on previous event of a direct competitor in pretty much the same position

2017-06-11 23:20:02 UTC

but if you want to talk about the previous gen performances, I doubt you could make a game like Uncharted 3, TLOU or whatever run properly on the X360 with the same resolution and framerate.

2017-06-11 23:24:07 UTC

Sony did a stupid move at that time, the Cell processor, the RSX, etc where not the best thing they could have use, especially due to their price

2017-06-11 23:26:35 UTC

they took a huge blow because of that and especially since they lost on the PS3 vs X360 sales in the beginning because of the pricing... (nowadays, the sales are pretty much evens for those both consoles, 84M for the X360 and 83.8M for the PS3)

2017-06-11 23:28:59 UTC

now if you want to talk about the current gen, Microsoft lost. 60M for the PS4 and 26M for the X1 as of january 2017.

2017-06-11 23:30:24 UTC

let's hope the X1 X create a lot of sales for them.

2017-06-11 23:31:21 UTC

but with their lacks of exclusive, I doubt they will pass PS4 sales anytime soon, even if every X1 player bought a X1 X it wouldn't be enough

2017-06-11 23:32:50 UTC

hence why I said that the price won't go down anytime soon, that's just pure speculations based on relatively close past events, current numbers, etc but that seems pretty much correct IMHO.

2017-06-11 23:42:55 UTC

they just failed... especially with their early marketing on the X1 (you wouldn't be able to resell, lent, games, etc. Kinect sold with the console for more money, etc).

2017-06-11 23:43:38 UTC

that's why those numbers are what they are today, and their 2015 or 2016 announcement about exclusive on PC too

2017-06-11 23:45:42 UTC

that succession of events was litteraly them asking for it and shooting themselves in the foot.

2017-06-11 23:48:21 UTC

there is a lot of thing Microsoft does better than Sony though if I want to be fair. Retrocompatibility is one huge point for Microsoft. GWG on 360 doesn't require you to keep being gold to play games, more AAA with GWG too

2017-06-11 23:48:55 UTC

too bad that mostly concern the old gen...

2017-06-11 23:51:20 UTC

oh BTW, I heard the $199 offer for the X1 S is not permanant?

2017-06-11 23:51:31 UTC

They made a bit of a comeback over the last 2-3 years

2017-06-11 23:52:12 UTC

```
If you're interested, we'd suggest action fast as the deal is for a limited time only — Microsoft says it's gonna jump back up by $50 on June 17. That said, Microsoft has a history of issuing "temporary" price drops for Xbox One consoles and then making that price permanent soon after.
```

2017-06-11 23:52:55 UTC

yeah I remember this, it was a speculation though

2017-06-11 23:53:13 UTC

it could have been possible on a lot of indie games though but the SDK didn't support it.

2017-06-11 23:56:44 UTC

oh and the lack of TV that has a native 120FPS didn't made it worthwhile too

2017-06-11 23:57:11 UTC

most TV with high framerate that you see on the market aren't supporting native 120Hz input

2017-06-11 23:58:11 UTC

when you enable game mode of those TV you can see that the refreash rate is 60FPS max in 99% of them

2017-06-11 23:58:48 UTC

even on your super 400Hz Full HD TV from back then

2017-06-12 00:01:27 UTC

so, if you consider that the HDMI tech back when the PS3 was release didn't support transfer rates supperior to what is needed for 1080p/60 fps, it wasn't a possibility.

"custom silicon" GTFO here with these bullshit buzzwords

2017-06-12 12:59:26 UTC

How the fuck can you customise silicon?!
