$499 for Xbox One X
Maybe the price is like that so they can drop it for Christmas?
Xbox One S was dropped to $199
doubt so, I wish for the xbox fans that it would be the case but the price is above the price of the hardware, they are already barely making any margin on that console if they do any
you have to keep in mind that it was customized hardware made especially for the console and that isn't cheap to produce
they knew they couldn't sell it above 500 bucks so they probably settled for that price for the time being
They nearly have a Trillion dollars, I'm sure they can take the hit
I'm not telling that they can't take a such loss / low margin
I'm telling that they probably won't lower the price soon because they have to be bankable for the shareholders
Then after, they'll make it up with XBL and videogames
Sony did that too with the PS3 at that time, I know it's possible, but the price didn't go down for quite some time
just the price of the cell processor at that time was around 800 bucks
it was a powerpc arch with 8 physicals cores back in 2006...
I heard a lot of games ran better on the X360 than the PS3
if you want, we can talk about architecture and SDK optimizations, that's not the point though
Heard a lot of issues with the cell processor and split memory
again, that's not the point, but if you want to know it was mostly an issue with multi platform games
it's hard to do the comparisons but TFLOPS, etc was above on the PS3, it suffered from a not so good SDK in the beginning though and had issue with multi platform game engines that were poorly optimized
but again, that's another story. I'm talking about the hardware price and why the "X1 X" (stupid name but whatever) price will probably stall a bit based on previous event of a direct competitor in pretty much the same position
but if you want to talk about the previous gen performances, I doubt you could make a game like Uncharted 3, TLOU or whatever run properly on the X360 with the same resolution and framerate.
Sony did a stupid move at that time, the Cell processor, the RSX, etc where not the best thing they could have use, especially due to their price
they took a huge blow because of that and especially since they lost on the PS3 vs X360 sales in the beginning because of the pricing... (nowadays, the sales are pretty much evens for those both consoles, 84M for the X360 and 83.8M for the PS3)
now if you want to talk about the current gen, Microsoft lost. 60M for the PS4 and 26M for the X1 as of january 2017.
let's hope the X1 X create a lot of sales for them.
but with their lacks of exclusive, I doubt they will pass PS4 sales anytime soon, even if every X1 player bought a X1 X it wouldn't be enough
hence why I said that the price won't go down anytime soon, that's just pure speculations based on relatively close past events, current numbers, etc but that seems pretty much correct IMHO.
they just failed... especially with their early marketing on the X1 (you wouldn't be able to resell, lent, games, etc. Kinect sold with the console for more money, etc).
that's why those numbers are what they are today, and their 2015 or 2016 announcement about exclusive on PC too
that succession of events was litteraly them asking for it and shooting themselves in the foot.
there is a lot of thing Microsoft does better than Sony though if I want to be fair. Retrocompatibility is one huge point for Microsoft. GWG on 360 doesn't require you to keep being gold to play games, more AAA with GWG too
too bad that mostly concern the old gen...
oh BTW, I heard the $199 offer for the X1 S is not permanant?
They made a bit of a comeback over the last 2-3 years
```
If you're interested, we'd suggest action fast as the deal is for a limited time only — Microsoft says it's gonna jump back up by $50 on June 17. That said, Microsoft has a history of issuing "temporary" price drops for Xbox One consoles and then making that price permanent soon after.
```
yeah I remember this, it was a speculation though
it could have been possible on a lot of indie games though but the SDK didn't support it.
