🇺🇸 **Launch to prove Earth is flat delayed by US govt**
<https://archive.is/1jxdV>

The self-styled “World's Most Famous Limousine Driver” Mike Hughes, 61, has suffered a setback in his attempts to prove the Earth is flat. On Saturday, a federal agency blocked his homemade rocket launch by withholding permission to use public land.

The steam-powered rocket was scheduled to take off in Amboy, California, a ghost town in the Mojave Desert along route 66, but Hughes couldn't get permission from the Bureau of Land Management to conduct the launch. Hughes claims he was given verbal permission over a year ago while awaiting final approval from the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).

“It's still happening. We're just moving it three miles down the road,” Hughes told The Washington Post Friday. “This is what happens anytime you have to deal with any kind of government agency. I don't see [the launch] happening until about Tuesday, honestly. It takes three days to set up… You know, it's not easy because it's not supposed to be easy.”

A spokesperson for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) told the Washington Post that there were no official records of contact between the agency and Hughes and that he had not requested the special recreation permit required to conduct the launch.

<http://archive.is/Rp9dN>

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A man who survived the Oct. 1 mass shooting that killed 58 concert-goers and injured hundreds in Las Vegas has been killed in a hit-and-run in southern Nevada.

Roy McClellan of Las Vegas was killed Nov. 17 while hitchhiking on State Route 160 in Pahrump, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) west of Las Vegas.

His widow, Denise McClellan, told KSNV-TV she can't understand why her 52-year-old husband survived the shooting, only to die in a hit-and-run. She says the mass shooting "was messing with his head" and that he was undergoing therapy.

🇧🇪 **Brussels rally turns violent as European capitals protest ‘modern slavery’ in Libya**
<https://archive.is/SZIxg>

The mainly peaceful rally in Brussels turned violent when several dozen protesters broke away from the main march to vandalize local shops and attack police lines. Police used water cannons to disperse the group after they threw projectiles at officers. While no one was reportedly injured in the clashes, Brussels public prosecutor’s office announced that authorities made 16 judicial arrests and 55 administrative arrests following the clashes in the Brussels-Capital Ixelles area.

In the German capital, Berlin, hundreds of members of the African community dressed up as slaves in chains and rallied outside the Libyan Embassy, holding signs that read: “Stop black slavery in Europe and Libya,” and “Black Lives Matter.”

“It is very crucial that we come here today to express our feelings about the illicit torture of the black African people in Libya who are basically migrants who are trying to cross into the European continent for a better life. That is why we are here to express how we feel about the torture. It’s really disheartening when we hear about the slavery that started in Libya, the sales of African migrants and the torture,” Jace Owie, a Nigerian activist from Citizen Diplomat, told RT’s Ruptly video agency.

🇬🇧 **Second Labour Party member dies suddenly after being suspended over sexual misconduct claims**
<https://archive.is/KI1Li>

A second Labour Party member has died suddenly following his suspension from the party over allegations of sexual misconduct. It comes just two weeks after Welsh assembly cabinet member Carl Sargeant took his own life after being suspended over claims of sexual harassment.

The senior staff member, based at the Party's headquarters in Victoria, passed away last week. The man, in his 30s, had been suspended over allegations involving pornography, according to the Sunday Times. General Secretary Iain McNichol broke the news to staff on Thursday.

In a statement the Party said: "A member of Labour Party staff has died suddenly and unexpectedly. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family, friends and colleagues whose privacy must be respected. We will not be commenting further."

🇺🇸 **Black Friday posts new single day record for gun checks at more than 200,000**
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/11/25/black-friday-posts-new-single-day-record-gun-checks-more-than-200-000/894706001/

The FBI was flooded Friday with more than 200,000 background check requests for gun purchases, setting a new single day record, the bureau reported Saturday.

In all, the FBI fielded 203,086 requests on Black Friday, up from the previous single-day highs of 185,713 last year and 185,345 in 2015. The two previous records also were recorded on Black Friday.

Gun checks, required for purchases at federally licensed firearm dealers, are not a measure of actual gun sales. The number of firearms sold Friday is likely higher because multiple firearms can be included in one transaction by a single buyer.

🇸🇦 **Saudi Arabia Kicks Off Islamic Counter-Terrorism Summit**
<https://archive.is/aCZXS>

Saudi Arabia gathered officials from 40 Muslim countries on Sunday in the first meeting of an Islamic counter-terrorism alliance, a move Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman declared a “clear signal” to extremism.

“In past years, terrorism has been functioning in all of our countries… with no coordination” among them, he said in his keynote speech. “This ends today, with this alliance.”

The summit is the first meeting of defence ministers and other senior officials from the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, which officially counts 41 members. The alliance was announced in 2015 under the auspices of Prince Mohammed, whose rapid ascent since his appointment as heir to the throne in June has shaken the political scene across the region.

🇩🇪 **Amazon workers treated like ‘animals’ in exhausting working conditions, reporter reveals**
<https://archive.is/3lydH>

Amazon workers are being treated like “animals,” forced to work to the point of physical collapse, it has been revealed. An undercover reporter for the Daily Mirror laid bare the working conditions at the world’s largest retailer. Daily Mirror reporter Alan Selby found that workers at the Amazon plant in Tilbury, Essex, were so tired that they “fell asleep on their feet” while working a 55-hour week.

Selby spent five weeks as an undercover worker at the warehouse, which is said to be as big as 11 football fields, and where employees have to walk up to 3 miles in order to reach the toilets. Amazon workers are constantly being monitored by cameras while being expected to package up to 300 items an hour – or one every 12 and a half seconds.

“Those who could not keep up with the punishing targets faced the sack – and some who buckled under the strain had to be attended by ambulance crews,” Selby said. With timed toilet breaks and just two half hours off, conditions at the warehouse are so unbearable that one employee said they “killed” emoloyees.

🇺🇸 **Chicago bakery loses one-third of staff to immigration raids**
<https://archive.is/k4Npu>

A Chicago, Illinois bakery that makes McDonald’s hamburger buns is struggling after a third of its workers were detained by immigration enforcement. The company is facing pressure to raise wages in order to attract replacements.

About 800, or 35 percent, of the workers at Cloverhill Bakery had to be replaced, reported Bloomberg News, citing the Zurich-based Aryzta AG. The company makes baked goods for fast-food chains and supermarkets. The workers were supplied by a job-placement agency that faced federal audits earlier this year.

In the first six months of President Donald Trump’s administration there was a spike in the number of immigrants arrested by federal agents in Chicago. Data from the US Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) revealed an approximate 30 percent increase in arrests and deportations in Chicago compared to the end of the Obama administration.

http://freebeacon.com/politics/warren-trump-will-not-silence-using-racial-slur-pocahontas/

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) told MSNBC's Ali Velshi on Monday that President Donald Trump will not silence her by using a "racial slur" like "Pocahontas."

Trump hosted an event at the White House to honor Navajo code talkers, where he referenced Pocahontas, a nickname he has used in the past to refer to Warren.

Velshi played a clip of Trump's comments and then asked if she would like to respond.

"I just want to thank you because you are very, very special people. You were here long before any of us were here," Trump said. "Although, we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago; they call her Pocahontas."

Trump has said he calls Warren "Pocahontas" in reference to her unsubstantiated claim to Cherokee heritage. Warren's 2012 Senate opponent, Scott Brown, criticized her for claiming Cherokee heritage on applications in order to gain an academic advantage.

<https://archive.is/tWEfX>

A government watchdog who played a central role in the Hillary Clinton email investigation during the Obama administration told Fox News that he, his family and his staffers faced an intense backlash at the time from Clinton allies – and that the campaign even put out word that it planned to fire him if the Democratic presidential nominee won the 2016 election.

“All of a sudden I became a shill of the right,” McCullough recalled. “And I was told by members of Congress, ‘Be careful. You're losing your credibility. You need to be careful. There are people out to get you.’” As Election Day approached, McCullough said the threats went further, singling out him and another senior government investigator on the email case. “It was told in no uncertain terms, by a source directly from the campaign, that we would be the first two to be fired -- with [Clinton’s] administration. That that was definitely going to happen,” he said.

McCullough said he was just trying to do his job, which requires independence. "I was, in this context, a whistleblower. I was explaining to Congress -- I was doing exactly what they had expected me to do. Exactly what I promised them I would do during my confirmation hearing,” he said. “... This was a political matter, and all of a sudden I was the enemy."

<https://archive.is/9C1qz>

A knife attacker injured the mayor of a German town in an assault that appeared to be motivated by the municipal leader’s pro-refugee stance, officials said. The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, was “horrified by the knife attack”, her spokesman, Steffen Seibert, wrote on Twitter.

Andreas Hollstein, 57, the mayor of the western town of Altena, was attacked on Monday evening ***at a local kebab restaurant*** by a man who had loudly criticised his liberal refugee policy. The 56-year-old attacker, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, used a 30-centimetre-long (12in) knife, reported Spiegel Online. He was arrested at the scene.

The town of about 17,000 people was well known for taking in a larger share of asylum seekers than required amid the mass influx that has brought more than 1 million migrants and refugees to Germany since 2015.

🇷🇺 **Russia loses contact with Meteor satellite shortly after launch, says space agency**
<http://archive.is/8NbcH>

Russia has lost contact with a crucial satellite just hours after it was launched into space.

The rocket carrying the satellite was only the second launch from the Vostochny spaceport, a project that has been hailed as a major part of Russia’s plans for space exploration. As such, the problems look in danger of causing damage to morale in a country that sets a great deal of store by its historic achievements in space.

The satellite had also been an important part of the Russian space agency’s plans. The Meteor M2-1 weather satellite was launched with the hope of a five-year mission to monitor weather and the climate on behalf of the country’s meteorological agency.

The bacteria are now being taken back to Earth for further study after initial tests aboard the orbiting station showed they are harmless to humans.

Sayfullo Saipov, 29, entered his plea before US district judge Vernon Broderick in Manhattan. A court-appointed lawyer representing him, David Patton, declined to comment on the case after the hearing.

Saipov was arrested immediately after the 31 October attack in which he plowed a truck down a bike lane on Manhattan’s west side. He was hospitalized after he was shot by a police officer and arrested.

On 21 November, Saipov was charged in an indictment with eight counts of murder, 12 counts of attempted murder, one count of providing material support to Islamic State and one count of violence and destruction of a motor vehicle resulting in death.

The most serious charges against Saipov carry the death penalty, though it is not yet clear whether prosecutors will seek it.

Following the attack, Saipov told investigators he was inspired by watching Islamic State videos and began planning the attack a year earlier, according to a criminal complaint filed by prosecutors the day after the attack.

Uzbekistan-born Saipov also said “he felt good about what he had done” and asked for permission to display the flag of the militant group Islamic State in his hospital room, the complaint said.

<https://archive.is/9LCbu>

North Korea has claimed its latest launch was a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwasong 15, which can hit all the US mainland.

The announcement was made on North Korean state TV on Wednesday, following the launch on Tuesday (earlier Wednesday Pyongyang time). The missile flew some 1,000 kilometers eastward, according to the Pentagon, before falling in the Sea of Japan without causing any damage. Pyongyang's statement also declared that the North now has a full-fledged nuclear force. "North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced that the country has realized the great historic cause of completing a state nuclear force," it said, as cited by Yonhap.

The missile launch prompted an immediate response from South Korea, which launched its own missile-firing test minutes later. The US, Japan and South Korea have called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting in response to the launch. The meeting is set to convene in New York later Wednesday.

<https://archive.is/3WbDq>

More than half of the 21.7 million public comments submitted to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission about net neutrality this year used temporary or duplicate email addresses and appeared to include false or misleading information, the Pew Research Center said on Wednesday.

From April 27 to Aug. 30 the public was able to submit comments to the FCC on the topic electronically. Of those, 57 percent used either duplicate email addresses or temporary email addresses, while many individual names appeared thousands of times in the submissions, Pew said.

For example, “Pat M” was listed on 5,910 submissions, and the email address **[email protected]** was used in 1,002 comments. TV host John Oliver supported keeping net neutrality earlier this on his HBO talk show.

The flood of purportedly fake comments has made it difficult to interpret the public’s true thinking on net neutrality and has even spurred New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to investigate for the last six months who posted the comments to the FCC website.

China's deep-rooted relationship with Zimbabwe, formed under recently deposed leader Robert Mugabe, has weakened in recent years. But under the watch of new President Emmerson Mnangagwa, seen as a friendlier face to Beijing's commercial interests, bilateral ties could strengthen.

In fact, many speculate that it was China's concerns over its investments that resulted inthe Nov. 14 coup that ousted Mugabe — a charge that Chinese President Xi Jinping'sadministration has denied. Regardless, close ties are widely expected under Mnangagwa, billed as a pro-business figure committed to increasing foreign inflows.

If you use medical marijuana, you must turn in your guns. That’s according to the Honolulu Police Department, which has been sending out letters to legal users of medicinal weed that they must forfeit their weapons, as reported by multiple news organizations.

The letters in Hawaii have been coming out at least since the beginning of this year, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported, including one dated Nov. 13 that told medical weed card holders they “have 30 days upon receipt of this letter to voluntarily surrender your firearms. Your medical marijuana use disqualifies you from ownership of firearms and ammunition,” read the letter signed by police chief Susan Ballard, according to the Star-Advertiser.

The Honolulu Police Department confirmed the news to Leafly, which also included an image of the letter in its story. It has been sent to about 30 registered medical cannabis users so far, according to the Star-Advertiser.

"The majority of the jobs eliminated are in studio production, digital content, and technology, and they generally reflect decisions to do less in certain instances and redirect resources.”

It has been a trying year for ESPN. Its flagship channel has lost about 1.4 million cable subscribers since last year, costing it tens of millions of dollars in revenue and continuing a trend that has seen the network lose 13 million subscribers over the past five years.

<https://archive.is/1X0HT>

A former member of the Nigerian government has claimed his countrymen are being "captured, mutilated and cooked like kebabs" by slave traders in Libya. Ex-culture minister Femi Fani-Kayode lamented the plight of sub-Saharan Africans who arrive on the Mediterranean coast dreaming of a new life in Europe only to be forced into slavery.

He wrote: "75% of those sold into slavery in Libya who have their organs harvested, bodies mutilated and who are roasted like suya [an African kebab] are from southern Nigeria.

"Roasted alive! This is what Libyans do to sub-saharan Africans who are looking for a transit point to Europe. They sell them into slavery and either murder, mutilate, torture or work them to death."

The lawyer also criticised Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari for not doing enough to protect the victims, claiming that this was due to a tribal bias: "They are not Fulani herdsmen," he wrote.

🇫🇮 **Finnish court bans Neo-Nazi movement**
<https://archive.is/i0dht>

Pirkanmaa District Court has banned the Nordic Resistance Movement (Finnish acronym PVL), a Neo-Nazi organisation with links to similar groups elsewhere in the Nordic countries. The organisation has been disbanded as it 'flagrantly violated the principles of good practice', according to the court.

Although it was not a legally constituted association, the police viewed it as an ideologically driven, unregistered association.

The court ruled that it was a violent group that exhorted followers and members to violent acts. The court said that the group was not entitled to freedom of speech protections as its actions violated the human rights of others.

🇺🇸 **Man Tries To Pay Ticket With Pennies, Gets Choked By Guard, Poos Himself, Lawyer Says**
<https://archive.is/OSOFh>

The young Michigan man got a parking ticket in Royal Oak, and he was none too happy. He decided to pay his ticket — with pennies. Then, according to his attorney, he was choked by a guard and ended up taking a poo on himself before he passed out and was arrested.

"I don't think that in everyday course of business, we poop our pants or go around defecating ourselves," his attorney Jonathan Marco told WJBK-TV. After the incident, Sevy was charged with assaulting/obstructing a police officer and disturbing the peace. But his lawyer says Sevy was the real victim.

"I think the more profound and long-lasting injury is the psychological injuries he's suffering as a result of this. He's supposed to be in a safe place," he said. Sevy pleaded no contest to disturbing the peace and the assault/obstruction charge was dropped.

🇺🇸 **Former state Senator for Oklahoma (R) pleads guilty to child sex trafficking**
<https://archive.is/7VkVa>

Former two-term Republican state Sen. Ralph Shortey pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Timothy DeGiusti in exchange for federal prosecutors dropping three child pornography charges against him. Shortey resigned in March after he was arrested on state charges of engaging in child prostitution and transporting a minor for prostitution.

A federal grand jury returned a four-count indictment against Shortey in September. Among other things, the federal indictment alleged that Shortey produced child pornography in 2016 and 2017 and used his smartphone to send videos involving young boys and a young girl in 2013.

In addition, the indictment accused Shortey of child sex trafficking for allegedly soliciting a minor to engage in a commercial sex act on March 8 and 9 in 2017, the same incident that led to Shortey’s arrest and the filing of state charges against him. Those charges were dismissed following the federal indictment.

Shortey faces 10 years to life in prison and a $250,000 fine for child sex trafficking. The judge did not set a sentencing date.
