we would have to join on new terms

2019-07-19 08:59:07 UTC

so as far as a trade deal with the EU goes, it’s just more can kicking

2019-07-19 08:59:10 UTC

do you think the EU will give us good terms on a rejoin?

2019-07-19 08:59:13 UTC

hell no!

2019-07-19 08:59:38 UTC

do you mean 2nd ref before or after we leave?

2019-07-19 08:59:53 UTC

well either way

2019-07-19 08:59:57 UTC

as we triggered a50

2019-07-19 08:59:58 UTC

if before, we’re still in the EU and revoke means everything goes back to status quo afaik

2019-07-19 09:00:07 UTC

i dont think it does though

2019-07-19 09:00:12 UTC

unless A50 can be cancelled

2019-07-19 09:00:16 UTC

if its not

2019-07-19 09:00:19 UTC

we sign on new terms

2019-07-19 09:00:20 UTC

I think the courts ruled britain can revoke it

2019-07-19 09:00:37 UTC

but yeah if it’s after we’ve fully left then we get new, unfavourable terms

2019-07-19 09:00:39 UTC

not sure thats even an option

2019-07-19 09:00:48 UTC

as the EU have to agree to the a50 cancellation?

2019-07-19 09:00:54 UTC

lol as if they would now?? not sure

2019-07-19 09:00:58 UTC

I’ll check it, one sec

2019-07-19 09:02:35 UTC

yup - european courts ruled that the UK could revoke A50 and remain in the EU under current membership

2019-07-19 09:03:18 UTC

oh hmm

2019-07-19 09:03:21 UTC

that is nifty

2019-07-19 09:03:30 UTC

doubt that would happen

2019-07-19 09:03:35 UTC

it gives us an abort option at least

2019-07-19 09:03:42 UTC

yeah I’m doubtful of it happening

2019-07-19 09:03:42 UTC

GG @Chiral, you just advanced to level 3!

2019-07-19 09:04:04 UTC

maybe with a second referendum but otherwise it won’t

2019-07-19 09:04:31 UTC

and a GE is needed then

2019-07-19 09:04:33 UTC

what a mess

2019-07-19 09:05:04 UTC

a GE a 2nd ref and a remain win? lol

2019-07-19 09:05:08 UTC

I’m kinda torn, on the one hand we elect our government to make the policy decisions which is why I don’t support referendums, on the other hand our government is clearly too incompetent to actually do what they were elected to do

2019-07-19 09:05:11 UTC

stranger things have happened

2019-07-19 09:05:18 UTC

yeah that’s true

2019-07-19 09:05:29 UTC

I could see it happening

2019-07-19 09:05:46 UTC

tbh if they knew how to negotiate

2019-07-19 09:06:00 UTC

and actually hired some professional negotiators like the EU have

2019-07-19 09:06:01 UTC

not the most likely outcome but we’ve had very strange things happening over the paat two years

2019-07-19 09:06:13 UTC

and not gone in with a begging bowl and some stroppy demands

2019-07-19 09:06:31 UTC

tbh they should’ve also made sure some approach was approved in parliament too

2019-07-19 09:06:36 UTC

yea

2019-07-19 09:06:40 UTC
