@LetThereBeMike When Theresa May resigned as Tory Leader, the Tory Party elected BoJo as their new Party Leader

The UK does not elect a leader, it elected a party

The Queen then chooses the leader of the largest party to lead the UK

That new leader then has to either finish the term (for BoJo it would be the last two or three years) or call a snap election to restart that term

The other parties can also call a vote of no confidence
