The second was only a few months ago

Spain also said they would veto any Brexit deal that doesn't give them Gibraltar and yet here we are

Spain is increadibly inconsistent

The Spanish Government knows that letting Scotland in would anger Vox (the third largest party in Parliament) and would give hope to the Catalan and Basque parties

Exactly

2020-01-06 21:27:23 UTC

Also i don't think the gain of gibraltar is worth losing regions in spain like catalonia

2020-01-06 21:27:33 UTC

gibraltar only has a population above 30k

2020-01-07 04:46:04 UTC

The first thing Spain will do once the UK leaves is to make it EU policy to oppose the UK presence in Gibraltar.

Though as I said, until the SNP win the Scottish Parliament outright, no one will take the SNP seriously.

And the Germans and French would just reject Spain's ideas

Because the Germans and French don't want to cause an international crisis over Gibraltar

Also, Spain would just be kicked from NATO for essentially threatening one of the main leading countries of NATO

Oh, and not to mention the fact that if Spain were to try anything with Gibraltar, CataluΓ±a would immediately revolt

Lol. Woah there. This has already partly happened.

Actions speak louder than words

Argentina also are saying a bunch of shit about the Falklands but they're not going to invade again

Not to mention that the President of the US is anti-EU

2020-01-07 23:02:21 UTC

I don't like him but I don't think he's the worst

@TheBritishGamer β€πŸ”‘ (Meh) Why do English people like yourself disguise yourself under the British umbrella when you are only really interested in England and the English? Spain acknowledges Scotland as a nation and a country and also acknowledges Scotland has the rights of a nation and a country. Not once have Spain ever said they would block Scottish EU membership. The so called Spanish veto is rooted in English delusion. It is correct to say Spain is against Scottish independence from the UK, but it is also correct to say Spain is against English independence from the EU.

I'm half Spanish myself so I'm not only talking from the English perspective but from the Spanish one as well (more specifically the perspective of Madrid which is where my mum's family live at the moment)

@TheBritishGamer β€πŸ”‘ (Meh) The Spanish perspective is quite clear, Spain is against Scottish independence from the UK and English independence from the EU. But to suggest Spain will veto a Scottish EU application without providing any sources or evidence to back up your claim is, with the deepest respect, an absurdity. Did Spain veto Latvia and Estonia when the Soviet Union dismantled? Did Spain veto the Czech Republic and Slovakia when Czechoslovakia split apart?

I mean this Spanish Government is a much more unstable one than either the one under Zapatero, which had 163 seats, compared to Sanchez's 120 seats (or 135 if you include Unidos Podemos along with PSOE). There's also the fact that back in 2004 (which is when those Baltic States joined the EU), the nationalist Vox Party wasn't a political power back then

But even if we say that Spain would say yes, we then have to consider Scotland's deficit (which, by itself, is at 7%)

I believe the EU limit for any applying country is at 4%

Correction, the limit for applying countries is 3%

Andrew Neil also states Scotland's high deficit number when interviewing SNP members constantly

But it will be interesting to see the results of the Scottish elections as rhe SNP have never gained over 50% of the results (due to the electoral system they have)

I think they have over 40% of the Scottish Parliament

62/129 which is close to 50%

Yep, 48%

@TheBritishGamer β€πŸ”‘ (Meh) Scotland does not have full fiscal autonomy, therefore, it does not have a deficit. The UK Government refused to devolve it in 2015, so I think we can easily say Scotland is in a surplus. The figures relating to the Scottish economy is provided to the Scottish Government by the UK Government. I ask you, why do they refuse to implement full fiscal automony in Scotland?

Btw, a bit off topic but where are you from? Scotland?

2020-01-08 17:50:08 UTC

@TheBritishGamer β€πŸ”‘ (Meh) I am from Scotland but I am against Scottish independence.

Ah

If you voted, who did you vote for?

2020-01-08 17:50:53 UTC

Scottish National Party

Tactical vote?

2020-01-08 17:54:29 UTC

I believe Scottish independence is a question for the Scots.
