Damn
Sounds like a good written book
I’ll go start it
Also check out Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury. Very similar theme.
Whats it about?
Also the alternate society
In Fahrenheit 451, all books are seen as dangerous, and the 'Firemen' of the town are tasked with burning any homes if one is found.
GG @Puerto Rican Nelson, you just advanced to level 19!
451 degrees Fahrenheit being the temperature that standard book paper burned.
Ah
No free speech
Orwell's 1984 is more complex in the issues it explores, but Fahrenheit's singular message I found more compelling.
Is 1984 not kinda old fashioned? Or is it still applicable on current times
It does. Oceania was left a little bit mysterious to keep the setting timeless. You learn a lot, but it's far from enough.
Orwell's other books like Animal Farm are easier to understand
1984 is much more complex
Due to how little the book tells you about the world of 1984
Even animal farm gets bastardized, sadly.
What's one example you've seen?
Whats animal farm about?
Just became a platitude.
@Stresbal political Charlotte's Web.

Pls bal
Ok where is dank memer bot

Dumping trillions into war when our people are sick and hungry is crazy
Letting insurance companies and big pharma be in control of our healthcare and wellbeing is crazy
Punishing people with crippling debt for getting educated is crazy
Not paying people a living wage, leading them to work multiple jobs (and STILL struggling to make ends meet) is crazy
Americans being forced to travel to other countries (often third world shitholes) to get medical care is crazy
The war on drugs is crazy
The income inequality is crazy
Oh yeah, about that:

HUNGRY KIDS in America is crazy. We have kids who can't afford school lunches, in places where these are not subsidized. We have CHILDREN who are in DEBT to the school for their school lunches. For some of them, it's the only meal of their day.
Retroactively enacting financial policies is not how it works lol, what a stupid argument
Like, if a cigarette tax is suddenly lifted - everyone who paid it in the past should get reimbursed?
Don't be stupid.
