(Do not clean the filters with your bare hands, the outside of the ceramic filters can have concentrated levels of contaminants after extended use including heavy metals, organic compounds and more)

quick question: potatoe growing is a easy as going to my local food market, buy some potatoes that still have some roots (tubers) attached to them and putting them in the dirt? (watering etc. but thats a no brainer)

2020-02-26 13:33:18 UTC

That's pretty damn close. Let the potatoes sprout first. You can even cut a potato up and plant each sprout individually, thereby turning one potato into 5 plants

2020-02-26 13:33:37 UTC

The potato itself is a tuber

Just a note on Sawyer filters and others like them (not ceramic ones), they are adapted from kidney dialysis filters. They sell different micron levels. Basically as they get used, the filter clogs up and slows down. You just backwash them with filtered water and it flushes them out and good to go again. That's how they have the 100k gallon rating.

2020-02-27 01:30:09 UTC

did someone mention there was a place you could buy near expiration date MREs in bulk for a decent price?

2020-02-27 01:31:02 UTC

OH searched, @UncleDrMrBaby you said locally, what kind of place is it?

2020-02-27 01:31:19 UTC

do they have a website maybe

2020-02-27 01:32:28 UTC

They do not have a website. It’s like a hardware store and a milsurp store had an abortion.

2020-02-27 01:34:32 UTC

interesting, i think there's a milsurp store a couple towns away, but ill check around for something closer

2020-02-27 01:34:36 UTC

thanks

@Lizard regular potatoes; neutral flavor means more versatility, and I think they're more calorically dense

2020-02-27 19:41:50 UTC

Is that rice?

2020-02-27 19:44:58 UTC

yes

2020-02-27 19:46:52 UTC

I have a month worth of rice but know nothing about overnight soaks

2020-02-27 19:46:58 UTC

Let me know how it turns out

2020-02-27 19:49:10 UTC

It's not my Plan A

2020-02-27 19:49:33 UTC

it was "al dente" sort of... think I didn't add enough water

2020-02-27 19:50:46 UTC

this is just a backup for if I lose my ability to cook/boil water

2020-02-27 19:53:05 UTC

2020-02-28 02:08:00 UTC

Any recommendations for what I should get next time I go for a supply run

2020-02-28 07:35:00 UTC

@AquinasAdherent do you have a makeshift toilet?

2020-02-28 07:35:42 UTC

if not, a 5-gallon bucket and some heavy duty/contractor trash bags could do the trick, maybe throw in some cat litter to help with the smell

2020-02-28 07:36:07 UTC

I used sawdust for mine at deer camp

2020-02-28 11:12:33 UTC

also don't forget to pick your nose for the extra calories
