I'm an American with roots to the Virginia eastern shore in the 1640's. I say that because I have no where else to go. This America is where my deep roots exist. Saying that, I would much prefer to have the richness of innovation and perspective that comes from lots of cultural backgrounds coming together. I look at all the creative energy brought to this country from my colleagues of African, Asian, Latin American, and Middle Eastern decent and am glad we avail ourselves of their knowledge and skills.

Some of the smartest scientists and practitioners I have worked have recent roots in India, Iran, Egypt, and even Syria. Some are Muslim, some are Hindu, and some are Sikh or Ba'hai, but all bring incredible insight and productivity to this nation.

I'd hate for us to lose that.

In most countries the people who are the scientists are the people who actually share the culture there
