Haha

2019-08-28 23:06:04 UTC

@lind we're actually trying to have a discussion, so please leave

2019-08-28 23:07:29 UTC

do you think that sex is seperate or completely disconnected from sex

2019-08-28 23:10:52 UTC

gender *roles* are a social construct; *gender* is heavily influenced by biology. *sex* is determined by our genetics - XX, XY, genetic sequences, etc. accompanied by primary and secondary sex characteristics (bobs, peen, vagene, body shape, bone density) - *gender* is determined by how our body reacts to the presence or absence of certain levels of hormones. When I was born, I was born male. I will always be a biological male (this is my *sex*). My *gender* as I grew up turned out to be male as I learned what I like and what I don't like. However, as puberty set in and dysphoria followed, I felt the need to change my *gender* to match my desired sex.

2019-08-28 23:11:20 UTC

Yes but you can't actually change it

2019-08-28 23:11:24 UTC

a gender role says that girls must play with dolls - that is a social construct because society enforced an arbitrary rule with no basis in biology

2019-08-28 23:12:13 UTC

A gender role implies your role in the family unit, aka mother or father

2019-08-28 23:12:21 UTC

so do you think that sex change surgery

2019-08-28 23:12:26 UTC

is true sex change

2019-08-28 23:12:32 UTC

@Shnaky that is another example of a gender role

2019-08-28 23:12:47 UTC

No that's what gender roles are for

2019-08-28 23:12:53 UTC

The purpose of them

2019-08-28 23:13:24 UTC

you seem to fundamentally misunderstand what a gender role is - it's any arbitrary rule set by society upon gender expression. i.e. *women must be mothers*

2019-08-28 23:13:32 UTC

gender

2019-08-28 23:13:47 UTC

either of the two sexes (male and female), especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. The term is also used more broadly to denote a range of identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female:

2019-08-28 23:13:53 UTC

I've transitioned too, snowflake, i know what you think it is

2019-08-28 23:13:56 UTC

role in a family unit is not the same as a gender role - a gender role fundamentally and discretely refers to the arbitrary rules

2019-08-28 23:14:10 UTC

You can't impose your thoughts onto reality of our doesn't actually imply

2019-08-28 23:14:18 UTC

if you're going to call me a snowflake, you can leave

2019-08-28 23:14:37 UTC

ad hominem attacks aren't welcome, read the rules

2019-08-28 23:14:55 UTC

I'm saying you cant tell me what i dont know

2019-08-28 23:15:10 UTC

clearly i can and i should because you don't understand what a gender role is

2019-08-28 23:15:20 UTC

no

2019-08-28 23:15:23 UTC

the problem is

2019-08-28 23:15:27 UTC

Gender roles are for the sex roles which is man and woman; father and mother. Its what the sexes make them

2019-08-28 23:15:29 UTC

we fundamentally disagree

2019-08-28 23:15:31 UTC

gen·der role
noun
the role or behavior learned by a person as appropriate to their gender, determined by the prevailing cultural norms.
"the emphasis on maintaining traditional gender roles"

2019-08-28 23:15:40 UTC

your understanding of gender

2019-08-28 23:15:43 UTC

differs to mine

2019-08-28 23:15:50 UTC

so we cant agree

2019-08-28 23:15:58 UTC

or come to any resoultion

2019-08-28 23:15:59 UTC

you're using the sociological definition of gender @FoundALegalDwarf

2019-08-28 23:15:59 UTC

GG @alexandra, you just advanced to level 2!

2019-08-28 23:16:04 UTC

not the medical definition

2019-08-28 23:16:06 UTC

which in my mind

2019-08-28 23:16:08 UTC

Thats the acedemic/metaphysical understanding, literally not applicable to reality

2019-08-28 23:16:29 UTC

is the correct definition

2019-08-28 23:16:37 UTC

If gender rolea are only a social construst, than why do you feel the need to transition in the role doesnt really exist?

2019-08-28 23:16:37 UTC

GG @Shnaky, you just advanced to level 1!

2019-08-28 23:16:52 UTC

there's no "correct" definition yet - i'm in the camp that gender dysphoria and being trans is a medical condition

2019-08-28 23:16:58 UTC

yeah
