I agree that personal achievement should be the number one criteria
I would say that differences in IQ trump that effect tho

IQ is fairly limited - sure, if the only thing you know about two surgeons was their IQ, you'd probably pick the only with higher IQ
But many other factors are more important (experience, success rate, education, residency, etc)
The argument is that iq yields higher job performance
Even when you control for those things
Depending on the job, perhaps
Especially so for complex jobs like medicine lol
If your IQ is too high, you're going to be too demoralized for certain kinds of manual labor, for example
