OK, but on the subject of Mao and sparrows, he had the right idea but in the wrong continent. Sparrows are a terribly invasive species in the US that were brought over from Europe, and they have done a ton of damage to local wildlife such as bluebirds. They're murderous little fucks and our indigenous birds haven't had time to adapt to their presence. They're one of 3 species of birds you're legally allowed to kill with impunity.
House Sparrows. Tree Sparrows are cool guys who deserve their citizenship.
