i think we can all agree

2018-03-05 03:08:49 UTC

i recall someone earlier saying if you wanted a definition of gender, then define it as social or psychological sexual characteristics

2018-03-05 03:09:02 UTC

wonder who the fuck that was

2018-03-05 03:09:28 UTC

i guess they will remain some unknown genius

2018-03-05 03:09:40 UTC

you did

2018-03-05 03:09:55 UTC

I quoted you last time on that

2018-03-05 03:10:11 UTC

nah cant be, grenade said evenmerriam-webster disagrees with me

2018-03-05 03:10:20 UTC

followed by asking what categories would you define

2018-03-05 03:10:28 UTC

that were concrete

2018-03-05 03:10:46 UTC

the argument has kinda changed from "what is your definition" which you didn't really for reasons you made clear to "why should it still mean sex"

2018-03-05 03:11:15 UTC

>why should it still mean sex
because it always did 😏

2018-03-05 03:11:48 UTC

we are back at the start. What would you define "gender" that would be useful for society?

2018-03-05 03:11:58 UTC

although that argument has boiled down to "it used to mean the same thing, SJWs tried to change it to something we have logically followed through to really be meaningless, so therefore it should retain its previous meaning over no meaning"

2018-03-05 03:11:59 UTC

> why shouldent it mean sex
because i gendered your mom so hard she told me to stop and have sex with her

2018-03-05 03:12:36 UTC

Have some coke first.

2018-03-05 03:12:39 UTC

to be fair, if we go by science definition, things don't have sex, they have intercourse

2018-03-05 03:12:39 UTC

you're not that good with language are you?

2018-03-05 03:12:46 UTC

so if gender means biological sex, it is not a verb.

2018-03-05 03:13:10 UTC

it also doesent mean sex

2018-03-05 03:13:16 UTC

in any connotation

2018-03-05 03:13:38 UTC

I'm getting vibes of the whole "what is white?" debates earlier with Sargon...

2018-03-05 03:13:48 UTC

>gender means biological sex, it is not a verb
I don't think this can be said more simply than this

2018-03-05 03:13:59 UTC

there are no boats with physical sexual traits there is no way for me to have gender with your mom

2018-03-05 03:14:20 UTC

boats have no gender in chinese

2018-03-05 03:14:32 UTC

So because coke exists, that means coke can't mean coke at the same time?

2018-03-05 03:14:33 UTC

thats because gender is arbitrary

2018-03-05 03:14:47 UTC

no it isn't z.z

2018-03-05 03:15:04 UTC

this is back to Belial earlier argument, gender should still mean sex, the noun definition of sex, not the verb one.

2018-03-05 03:15:07 UTC

gendered nouns it's not the same as biological sex

2018-03-05 03:15:34 UTC

i mean theres so much overwelming evidence that it is that denying it it honestly awesome at this point but if you cant be convenced then ignorence is bliss

2018-03-05 03:15:57 UTC

>so much overwelming evidence
point to it

2018-03-05 03:16:03 UTC

sauce plz

2018-03-05 03:16:25 UTC

you can't say gender is arbitrary because you say boats are female

2018-03-05 03:16:30 UTC

no i wont, because if your asking for it now it means you havent listened to me this entire time and you arnt worth any more of it

2018-03-05 03:16:32 UTC

that isn't even convincing

2018-03-05 03:17:05 UTC

From my experience, when there really is "so much evidence" of something, then it doesn't need to be pointed out that there is so much evidence of it.

2018-03-05 03:17:10 UTC

that sounds like the usual "educate yourself because I have no arguments"

2018-03-05 03:17:15 UTC

In conversations like this, at least.

2018-03-05 03:18:24 UTC

there is so much evidence that gender was always the same as sex for more than 2000 years, that I could play the same _theres so much overwelming evidence_

2018-03-05 03:19:14 UTC

Wat

2018-03-05 03:21:41 UTC

@Arch-Fiend Grammatical Gender is so different from normal gender that they felt the need to specify it being different with the word grammatical. And as with the article noted earlier, would make more sense to call noun classes, not gender. So there goes your boat argument because boat being called she, or a feminine article, is either personification or noun class, not referencing anything related to sex or gender for that matter aside from names applied to it for teaching reasons. Gender used to be used to specify the noun definition of sex, a useful way to differentiate from the verbal definition. The only other definitions thrown around lead to gender being meaningless. Since it used to have a meaning, then it makes little sense to strip it of meaning for arbitrary reasons. Doing so just leads to two sides, using the same word, to argue two unrelated points.
