someone earlier said the last jedi was so close to being ok. its kinda like how if i shot myself perfectly in the center of my forhead id be so close to solving all my problems, so close.
@Arch-Fiend i linked a video which pretty well explains why.
its the only starwars movie ive ever hated, so i think its a bit worse than "just misses the mark"
it actually makes me think less of the earlier film, NO movie has ever done that before
not necessarily. sometimes just a change of context can flip a scene and motif 180.
sometimes you can see a bad sequal but it doesent harm the predicesser much, this is not the case
and the video had 12 of those instances so thats only a few changes but a massive shift in overall story
first one being instead of luke just straight up trying to murder kylo, he instead saw snoke much in the same way he sees kylo when rey is with him, and that is what he is reacting to when he activates his lightsaber. So then kylo actually isn't right that luke was about to kill him.
that helps, so another change is completely changing lukes entire character too right? like making him not the worst character in starwars history?
here, watch the video, see if you think these changes would be enough to make it serviceable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8ksEz8Qq1k
nah its fine, i know what needed to be done to make that movie better, i think anyone with a brain does
so im sure its good but unfortunately i just dont want to give it any of my time
fair enough
but i think those are small enough that they could go back and reshoot them for not a lot of money, and the pull a Lucas and release a "remastered" version with the changes
the last jedi has zero redeeming qualities. the story makes no sense, the characters boring, uninteresting, unlikeable and stupid (in the sense of... dumb... not intelligent... just... stupid), the "jokes" destroy any suspension of disbelief and the combination of all those things made absolutely sure that i will not spend any money on seeing episode 9.
And then Disney finds new and uninteresting ways to make it even worse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9OXqzLvYJM
So in short: she leeched all of Kylo's training and powers from him because of mind bridge thingy.
So, shortcut to power, because we can't actually have any real development take place or have her character go through any real hardships now, can we?
Just when you think they can't possibly make this situation with Star Wars any worse and dig this hole any deeper, somehow a Disney employee manages to find a shovel.
It could have been so easy to insert a scene where she's looking into Kylo's mind and seeing his memories of being a Padawan and training at the temple. Being able to see the new order in it's beginnings, the potential, the hope, and then then we as an audience could learn and decide on the truth of Kylo and Luke's relationship leading up to the attempted murder
But noooooooooo...We get shitty authority figures and casinos
*And an entire subplot that didn't need to even exist.*
In fact, scratch that.
The entire **movie** doesn't need to exist.
Disney decended to follow EAs business model. Buy an existing IP, quickly release substandard product and rack in as much fanboy money as possible, then kill off the IP so it doesn't need to worry about it anymore.
I knew Disney would run Star Wars into the ground, but I didn't think they'd do it within the span of a single trilogy.
Especially given how overall pretty good the Marvel movies tend to be.
With some exception.
If anything, I thought they'd just do what they do with Marvel movies, only it's in a Star Wars skin.
My prediction was that 7-9 would be pretty good, with 9 probably being weak, and then things would start going downhill by Episode 11.
However, while a bit predictable, I didn't think rogue one was all that bad. Don't get me wrong, not short on room to improve, but not terrible
But then Disney was like "hold my beer."
I would like to have seen the pre-reshoot version of Rogue One.
Something tells me that was going to be much more interesting.
What was their excuse for the reshoots? It was 'too dark' for the casual audience?
Not sure how much darker you can get than "everyone dies."
The solo movie has been more or less written off but I'm still curious what it looks like.
Oh yeah, I have *zero* hope for the Solo movie.
We shall see. If it's like everything else, then no surprise. If, by some miracle, it stays about 7 and 8 in the vague area of rogue one, then there might be some life left in the EU, even if the main story is tanked.
I kind of went on a bit of a tyraid on another discord after hearing that they removed the guns/blasters off of the international movie posters.
