I looked at this the other day. It's a great idea. The moon isn't that big in the sky. Making a Mylar sheet appear the same size in a geosynchronous orbit wouldn't be hard.
You could also use it to power solar farms at night.
Won't work. Geosynchronous orbit only works over the equator and the distance is some 35 000 km, not 500km as the scientists are using

They probably planned it but for all we know some engineer just went we cant do this under current circumstances but theorized it might be possible some time in the future.
