So is collectivism inherently right-wing and individualism left-wing? If so then why is Marxism, a very collectivist economic system, considered left wing and capitalism, a very individualistic economic system, considered right wing?

2020-04-19 17:55:38 UTC

The issue with a linear dichotomy is that if you dont do it right you get contradictions like that skele

2020-04-19 17:55:43 UTC

lel

2020-04-19 17:56:10 UTC

I think a linear dichotomy in general is fake and gay ofc

2020-04-19 17:56:24 UTC

The 4 quadrants are far better

2020-04-19 17:56:46 UTC

Different positions kinda manifest themselves in different ways when looking at the political compass.

2020-04-19 17:56:48 UTC

y-axis: authority vs. liberty
x-axis: left vs. right economics

2020-04-19 17:57:29 UTC

left economics usually mean more control, either by the state or the people (as literal owners),

right usually means more control by the people (as consumers) and by the corporations/large firms

2020-04-19 17:57:53 UTC

authority vs. liberty is simple

2020-04-19 17:57:56 UTC

dont need to explain that

2020-04-19 17:58:38 UTC

you can (sort of) put ideologies on either axes for the economics

2020-04-19 17:58:41 UTC

not so much for authority

Libertarians will champion harbor individualism, but we’ll champion a more collective mindset. But of course the left and right will interpret those things differently. Right wing individualists will champion self sufficiency and such, while left wing individualists tend to champion shit like sexual liberation and such. Right wing collectivists tend to seek advancing their own group’s interests, while left wing collectivists in my view tend to seek material equality amongst all humans.

2020-04-19 17:59:56 UTC

correct

2020-04-19 18:00:02 UTC

probably the best way to describe it

2020-04-19 18:00:34 UTC

authoritarian collectivists (i.e. center on economics) seek a mix of group preference and worker's profit
