Gnight

2018-08-28 17:14:01 UTC

should we set our morale base by the principles and values that the science of ethics teaches?

2018-08-28 17:14:59 UTC

or just continue letting the masses wing it with social media?

2018-08-28 17:18:41 UTC

I'm by no means a cultural relativist. But I don't like the idea of experiments determining what is morally right and wrong. That should be left up to society.

2018-08-28 17:20:12 UTC

*''Ethics or moral philosophy is a branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct. The field of ethics, along with aesthetics, concern matters of value, and thus comprise the branch of philosophy called axiology.''*

I would say Morals are never up for social debate, rather, Ethics must be the product of public consensus.

2018-08-28 17:21:18 UTC

what

2018-08-28 17:22:52 UTC

so your answers are leave it like it is

2018-08-28 17:24:13 UTC

I don't think anyone would like the idea of having a moral abiter, commanding from upon high what is right.

2018-08-28 17:24:39 UTC

I have always seen a clear distiction, Morals are an individuals pricibles and value's of right and wrong, Ethics by contrast are a comunity standard. To say "That person has no morals" implies that they have no internal standards. Judges are held to standards of Ethics by their associations.

2018-08-28 17:27:05 UTC

everyone has a morla arbiter

2018-08-28 17:27:19 UTC

parents, priests, politicians, social media

2018-08-28 17:27:38 UTC

novadays politicans are the ones on top using morality to sway public opinion

2018-08-28 17:27:52 UTC

with shady values and principles that are hollow

2018-08-28 17:31:35 UTC

I don't think a most adults have an arbiter. It is fine for a kid to be taught right from wrong by their parents but the idea of having a child is for them to grow in to their own person. Yes politicians can use shame to sway public opinion. It's a good thing we have elections then.

2018-08-28 17:32:27 UTC

I couldn't care less what my politician thinks is right. Jacob Rees-Mogg is a c

2018-08-28 17:33:04 UTC

Christian, he think abortion is wrong. I don't agree with him but I still wouldn't mind him running the country.

2018-08-28 17:33:11 UTC

I would pull out the term impressing.

2018-08-28 17:34:46 UTC

Part of Parenting and Religion in general is to impress some ideas and standards into a child so they develope Morals that are in line with the community Ethic standard.

2018-08-28 17:36:32 UTC

That is why so many religous texts are concerned with standards of conduct and spend time explaining in "Moral of the story format" why they preach those standards

2018-08-28 17:39:10 UTC

How on earth could you codify 'ethics'? This is going to be different for everyone, even in a small community, not to mention on a country or global scale.

2018-08-28 17:40:58 UTC

theres a field on ethics called applied ethics

2018-08-28 17:41:22 UTC

is the only way to do it has nothing to do with the philosophers that rant about life and humans, thats meta ethics

2018-08-28 17:41:25 UTC

The Ten Commandments is a good exsample, Shiria Law is another, US Code is the legal standard =of behavior for all persons in the US

2018-08-28 17:41:51 UTC

Is this the thiong that states you should eat cows instead on chicken coz you get 100 times more meat from only 1 life ?

2018-08-28 17:43:35 UTC

No that is a Hidiaths (Spelled wrong and I don't care)

2018-08-28 17:44:25 UTC

hedonists?

2018-08-28 17:44:33 UTC

jk lol

2018-08-28 17:44:59 UTC

The point is that every community has an Ethical Standard of behaviors, some my be more lax than others, but they do have them.

2018-08-28 17:45:21 UTC

no they dont

2018-08-28 17:45:41 UTC

you may be talking about the set of princpiles and values their moral are conformed by

2018-08-28 17:45:55 UTC

those are the ones that differ

2018-08-28 17:46:25 UTC

OK, so where do you see social media deciding what our ethics are?

2018-08-28 17:46:48 UTC

ethics cant be changed by social media

2018-08-28 17:46:58 UTC

ethics is ethics , is a science

2018-08-28 17:47:24 UTC

look

2018-08-28 17:48:25 UTC

jesus thats a low quality description

2018-08-28 17:48:26 UTC

commonly used interchangeably with 'morality' ... and sometimes it is used more narrowly to mean the moral principles of a particular tradition, group or individual
