And because Deadspin made a video that both sides share, because people don't trust ANY news outfits, fuck Sinclair.

2018-10-18 19:15:25 UTC

No, we should hold all of them to better standards and not allow this bait and switch bullshit

2018-10-18 19:15:37 UTC

What bait and switch?

2018-10-18 19:15:39 UTC

Yes, fuck Sinclair but not exclusively

2018-10-18 19:15:42 UTC

people already are

2018-10-18 19:15:50 UTC

by no longer watching them

2018-10-18 19:15:52 UTC

They held an advertisement to advertise a feature on their website.

2018-10-18 19:16:22 UTC

Either advertisement is okay, or it's not.

2018-10-18 19:16:30 UTC

"Come to us for trustworthy news. We're not like those *other* stations"
"Hey guys did you know [insert politician here] is great and the opposition are monsters"

2018-10-18 19:16:38 UTC

Something can be legally okay but still dumb

2018-10-18 19:16:50 UTC

This was dumb

2018-10-18 19:16:59 UTC

You're misinterpreting what was said.

2018-10-18 19:16:59 UTC

Apple ad was dumb

2018-10-18 19:18:26 UTC

The ad is clearly meant to elicit the feeling that the problem is solvable and that they're trying to be objectice

2018-10-18 19:18:57 UTC

While they had and have "must run" partisan segments

2018-10-18 19:18:57 UTC

Wewlad.

2018-10-18 19:19:13 UTC

Looked back to discord and thought I saw live chat. Sorry about that...

2018-10-18 19:19:18 UTC

Wew

2018-10-18 19:19:43 UTC

I had scrolled back for a link, I thought you were repeating yourself, lol

2018-10-18 19:19:56 UTC

The message itself was not partisan.

2018-10-18 19:20:23 UTC

No, but the org is

2018-10-18 19:20:30 UTC

So the message by default is?

2018-10-18 19:20:39 UTC

No, the message is undermined

2018-10-18 19:20:51 UTC

Just like it was when CNN tried to talk about "facts"

2018-10-18 19:20:56 UTC

What's the message, then?

2018-10-18 19:21:17 UTC

"The ad is clearly meant to elicit the feeling that the problem is solvable and that they're trying to be objective"

2018-10-18 19:21:24 UTC

Or rather the segment

2018-10-18 19:21:41 UTC

But it is an ad really. Just native advertising

2018-10-18 19:22:37 UTC

Where did you get that quote?

2018-10-18 19:22:52 UTC

I said it minutes ago

2018-10-18 19:23:37 UTC

I don't think it's comparable to a company saying "we're the best at X" either, because that company presumably does X

2018-10-18 19:24:24 UTC

This is more like saying "PETA is dedicated to rescuing abused animals and giving them better homes" when all they do is keep em around until they can euthanize

2018-10-18 19:24:36 UTC

And poison people's pets

2018-10-18 19:25:02 UTC

~~I mean Heaven is a better home, isn't it?~~

2018-10-18 19:25:11 UTC

If PETA put out a hotline for reporting PETA's animal murder I would laugh in their faces

2018-10-18 19:28:57 UTC

So, if instead of a paid actor or the CEO of the company, A nationwide chain had an advertising campaign where the franchise owners were expected to promise quality ingredients and service to the customers in [franchise region here], is that brainwashing?

2018-10-18 19:29:27 UTC

is that specifically unethical?

2018-10-18 19:30:21 UTC

That's explicitly an ad

2018-10-18 19:38:03 UTC

Okay, so, if you've got employees, who have it in their job description that they may be required to participate in advertising functions, instead of even the franchise owner being the ones having to do it. Still an advertisement, right?

2018-10-18 19:43:57 UTC

If you take out ad time on TV and are talking about something you actually do, that is different from putting an ad in your news segment while talking about the importance of objective news on your partisan network

2018-10-18 19:45:21 UTC

that is an extremely difficult argument to parse, I'm afraid I'd strawman it if I even tried... So many damn qualifiers.
