You're an interesting person

2018-10-28 20:57:31 UTC

I can see why you class yourself a centrist

2018-10-28 20:58:00 UTC

Me neither. Absolute freedom of speech can never be abridged nor abrogated for a free and equal society. Anything else risks soft takeover.

2018-10-28 20:58:15 UTC

The first Amendment is what allows us to say something is wrong or right, the Second Amendment is what allows us to defend ourselves from those that would take away the First.

2018-10-28 20:58:16 UTC

My understanding. The baker in question did deny to make a custom wedding cake due to religion, he instead offered his generic options of what he had in store.
It is on par with the law that you can not deny customers on race, religion, etc, for goods available to the general public.
Is that the law they want to change, or am I misunderstanding your concerns ?
@DrYuriMom

The absolutist terms of the amendments means it really bugs me when we legislate caveats into them and pretend it's fine.

2018-10-28 20:58:49 UTC

Yeah, I hope you feel welcome around here 10th Amendment. This can be a kinda brutal place and people can get heated. But I think people aren't as angry as they can come across.

2018-10-28 20:59:02 UTC

@4AM_critter 🐉 , I'm totally comfortable with the decision within the limits as ruled

2018-10-28 20:59:04 UTC

Like, if the state punishes me for lying about another person, that's a breach of the 1st amendment.

2018-10-28 20:59:19 UTC

Again, the litigants were asshats

2018-10-28 20:59:32 UTC

Classic test case.

2018-10-28 20:59:46 UTC

I never quite understood why you'd want a custom cake from someone who clearly doesn't share your joy

2018-10-28 20:59:48 UTC

Did you hear they took the same bakery to court again shortly thereafter?

2018-10-28 20:59:53 UTC

It's like asking for an inferior product

2018-10-28 21:00:40 UTC

It had nothing to do with cakes and marriages. It had everything to do with pushing legal change via court decisions. Again, the litigants were classic test case activists with well-funded political legal groups behind them.

2018-10-28 21:00:55 UTC

They ordered cakes which were intentionally outside the pale.

2018-10-28 21:01:01 UTC

@pratel the state found another complaintant to file a complaint so they could go after the bakery

2018-10-28 21:01:08 UTC

And yes, to whoever above mentioned it, I am an example of one of those who spent the night of the election two years ago taking Xanax and drinking alcohol...at the same time. In my professional capacity I DO NOT recommend this!

2018-10-28 21:01:23 UTC

Thank you for clarification. My follow up question is. The law that says you may not hire, sell products or rent based on religion, race, sexuality etc. would that law be reinterpreted ?

2018-10-28 21:01:28 UTC

Do you still feel that way?

2018-10-28 21:02:06 UTC

Like, everything I've seen suggests Trump is the most pro-gay Republican, like, ever

2018-10-28 21:02:16 UTC

Xanax and alcohol. How wonderful

2018-10-28 21:02:24 UTC

So if Bush wasn't an existential threat, why is Trump?

2018-10-28 21:02:29 UTC

He was defending the privileges of homosexuals years before the Clintons.

2018-10-28 21:02:43 UTC

@velvitonator , I'm...not sure. There are still a lot of people who have the ear of the Republicans who would love to see my live trampled simply because hey do not like my morality.

2018-10-28 21:03:18 UTC

Trump has not been nominating very friendly judges

2018-10-28 21:03:27 UTC

Didn't trump fight for the gay pride parade in NYC at one point early on? With the caveat that he get the best seat?

2018-10-28 21:03:35 UTC

Again, I'm now taking a wait and see approach

2018-10-28 21:03:50 UTC

And honestly, I've never been a fan of the left either

2018-10-28 21:04:41 UTC

If it wasn't for the stupid hangup on GLBT I could have easily voted for Bush, McCain (class act), or Romney.

2018-10-28 21:04:43 UTC

The left and right both see you, the individual, as an expendable resource.

2018-10-28 21:04:51 UTC

It's true.

2018-10-28 21:05:12 UTC

Making empty promises to get the vote so they can gain power and do their best to keep you under their control

2018-10-28 21:05:35 UTC

I generally vote Dem not because I agree with most of their point but because they will acknowledge my family. And to me NOTHING is more important than family.

2018-10-28 21:05:43 UTC

Nothing

2018-10-28 21:06:01 UTC

The majority of the right has moved to the center, and for a lot of things the power of the "Far Right" has dropped off. By contrast, the power controling the "Left" has gone off the deepend.

2018-10-28 21:06:02 UTC

The only way to combat them is to keep them fighting each other over the power you grant them

2018-10-28 21:06:28 UTC

Few things piss me off more than for people who have had multiple divorces to tell ME that I'm the one trying to destroy the family 😡

2018-10-28 21:06:36 UTC

Lmao

2018-10-28 21:06:59 UTC

Projection at it's finest

2018-10-28 21:07:03 UTC

My understanding of things isn't quite the same, Khan. I think, rather than people on the right moving center, the window of discussion and acceptability has moved to the point where the former right is now in the center.
