it's like after a hurricane

2018-12-20 16:26:03 UTC

Worse than that

2018-12-20 16:26:07 UTC

2 of them -_-

2018-12-20 16:26:18 UTC

I lived through Harvey.

2018-12-20 16:26:47 UTC

Irma and Maria

2018-12-20 16:27:06 UTC

Ah, Florida man?

2018-12-20 16:27:13 UTC

No.

2018-12-20 16:27:31 UTC

Just referring to it then?

2018-12-20 16:27:39 UTC

PR

2018-12-20 16:27:46 UTC

... Oh.

2018-12-20 16:28:07 UTC

Yeah, that's a better example, actually.

2018-12-20 16:28:15 UTC

But that, worldwide...

2018-12-20 16:28:23 UTC

I can imagine

2018-12-20 16:28:31 UTC

This is now a Deus Ex thread

2018-12-20 16:28:32 UTC

And that's just internet.

2018-12-20 16:28:53 UTC

We didn't even take away electricity

2018-12-20 16:29:07 UTC

I recall once, that supposedly china turned "off" their routers and there was a major internet blackout

2018-12-20 16:29:50 UTC

thanks

2018-12-20 16:29:55 UTC

typos!

2018-12-20 16:30:12 UTC

Unless you want us to read that in a Hispanic affectation

2018-12-20 16:30:19 UTC

regulation and centralized control should be exercised in matters that are too cumbersome or pervasive for local control. I think a currency system and possibly the internet fit under these circumstances

2018-12-20 16:30:40 UTC

I can agree

2018-12-20 16:30:56 UTC

But absolute transparency is needed for those matters.

2018-12-20 16:31:22 UTC

also defense and public maintenance like roadways. other than that, it should be local

2018-12-20 16:31:40 UTC

yes, complete transparency

2018-12-20 16:32:05 UTC

with possible exception for defense matters that are deemed temporarily too sensitive

2018-12-20 16:33:07 UTC

I don't think that "the internet" can be maintained from a centralized source. The physical layer, sure, but not much beyond that

2018-12-20 16:33:47 UTC

it kinda falls under public maintenance for me, but I mean more like regulation of forums being constitutional rather than privatized

2018-12-20 16:33:59 UTC

considering the internet is more and more a public space than a private one

2018-12-20 16:34:48 UTC

you can totally privatize the shit out of making sure it stays up and running, just like how cities and states contract out to private companies for construction

2018-12-20 16:35:02 UTC

spec*

2018-12-20 16:35:32 UTC

You're going to need an excessively large government to be able to ensure that forums are following the constitution, to say nothing of jurisdiction

2018-12-20 16:36:01 UTC

not necessarily, the system we have already has provisions that COULD allow for it

2018-12-20 16:36:42 UTC

a lot of our internet usage is under the watchful eye of the big boys, right? google and facebook

2018-12-20 16:36:51 UTC

make them liable for breaches of rights

2018-12-20 16:37:02 UTC

they'll do it far more efficiently than a government could

2018-12-20 16:37:28 UTC

They don't know the content of every site you've ever been on, especially if you aren't using their services

2018-12-20 16:37:47 UTC

not them specifically, but those who are hosters

2018-12-20 16:37:53 UTC

Like there's so many ways around this it's not even funny. And *then* there's the jurisdiction issue

2018-12-20 16:38:10 UTC

there's so many ways around public forum breaches of rights it's not even funny anyway

2018-12-20 16:38:15 UTC

"Oh we moved our site to [insert country here] so we can do what we like"
