can be a bit of an issue given surrounding society but you can at least hope for a bit of 50/50

2019-01-02 05:01:02 UTC

So that is the debate I suppose

2019-01-02 05:01:31 UTC

Should free speech rights include the right to dress as you want

2019-01-02 05:02:42 UTC

i mean, in your own house especially?

2019-01-02 05:02:52 UTC

In public

2019-01-02 05:03:07 UTC

I assume you already have that right at home

2019-01-02 05:03:42 UTC

i mean, i don't think there is any federal laws against public nudity but i could be wrong

2019-01-02 05:04:01 UTC

There are no federal protections either

2019-01-02 05:12:31 UTC

well and i don't know if the states have much in terms of public decency, or if its usually down the local municipalities

2019-01-02 05:12:35 UTC

Right, it's decided by the states.

2019-01-02 05:12:51 UTC

because i do know that a lot of towns and such will have different rules on it

2019-01-02 05:13:05 UTC

and obviously nudist places exist

2019-01-02 05:25:26 UTC

true, but I think that there should be a culture shift away from the government 'protecting' you from offense

2019-01-02 05:37:00 UTC

indeed

2019-01-02 05:37:27 UTC

the government shouldn't be protecting your "sensibilities"

2019-01-02 05:38:49 UTC

I think the government is obligated to protect children from harm, but the government should be required to scientifically prove this harm

2019-01-02 05:38:59 UTC

nudity isnt on that list

2019-01-02 05:39:39 UTC

harm is, to an extent, subjective

2019-01-02 05:39:56 UTC

exposing them to "sin" people consider harm

2019-01-02 05:40:29 UTC

the problem is, if its the governments job to protect children, then that means you are removed that responsibility from the parent

2019-01-02 05:41:14 UTC

I mean when child rights class with parental rights

2019-01-02 05:41:14 UTC

you have determined parents are not fit to protect their kids, since it has to assume any given parent will be unable to protect their kid, which means it assumes all parents cannot

2019-01-02 05:41:29 UTC

then it becomes the parents job to prove to the government they can protect their child

2019-01-02 05:41:43 UTC

clash*

2019-01-02 05:41:43 UTC

this is a bit of a problem

2019-01-02 05:42:17 UTC

even when its clear the parents are causing problems, the government solution to remove the child usually doesn't end up help the child much

2019-01-02 05:42:25 UTC

look at how much of a mess our foster system is

2019-01-02 05:42:26 UTC

True

2019-01-02 05:43:48 UTC

i think a slightly better solution would be allowing the local community to remove the child from such a situation and if the can prove to the government that the child did, indeed, need to be removed, then they grant these new temp parents protects. there is still risk for abuse in such a system

2019-01-02 05:44:04 UTC

makes sense

2019-01-02 05:44:09 UTC

but i think a local church group will do a better job protecting kids than the government, and i'm an atheist

2019-01-02 05:44:17 UTC

lol

2019-01-02 05:45:16 UTC

Either way, not much can be done

2019-01-02 05:46:28 UTC

The problem is, the government does the child little more good when their intervention is justified, yet have the power to take a child out of a home that is perfectly functional.

2019-01-02 05:46:45 UTC

Then there is stories like the UK and a similar one in the US

2019-01-02 05:46:45 UTC

Yep

2019-01-02 05:49:34 UTC

The UK one was a child diagnosed with basically a fatal condition then refused to allow the kid to be moved to another country for treatment under the premise it was in too bad a condition to move and that moving it was child abuse

2019-01-02 05:49:46 UTC

The US one was worse imo

2019-01-02 05:50:06 UTC

They took their sick kid to a children's doctor

2019-01-02 05:50:14 UTC

I remember the uk one

2019-01-02 05:51:26 UTC

The doctor diagnosted the child with some disease and the parents didn't believe it for one reason or another. I forget the exact reason but it was situation where such a disease didn't make a lot of sense, so they wanted to wait on treatment as they got a second opinion.
