Quick bit from wikipedia.

2018-07-15 22:31:35 UTC

'Out of wedlock' doesnt really 1:1 with single mothers per say, but it might be fairly close.

2018-07-15 22:32:55 UTC

Interesting that the civil rights act was passed in 1964. So if you werent paying attention to any other factors, you could see that statistic and draw a correlation.

2018-07-15 22:33:33 UTC

Did the civil rights action do something specifically?

2018-07-15 22:33:45 UTC

Or did the parties learn something.

2018-07-15 22:33:50 UTC

?

2018-07-15 22:34:49 UTC

Unsure of what answer you're fishing for.

2018-07-15 22:35:03 UTC

Or what you mean by 'did the parties learn something'

2018-07-15 22:38:01 UTC

I mean the decline of the family unit. Was it caused by the civil rights movement. Or was it due to them becoming a voting bloc and the parties started running out to grab their vote.

2018-07-15 22:38:19 UTC

Decline of the family unit isnt a black only thing.

2018-07-15 22:38:20 UTC

And as you can see the dems have a strangllehold on them through alot of welfare.

2018-07-15 22:38:44 UTC

You seem to at least somewhat be falling for what i think alot of people might, when they see that statistic.

2018-07-15 22:38:56 UTC

Yes, blacks have a higher rate of out-of-wedlock births

2018-07-15 22:39:21 UTC

But it was rising, consistently, for everyone around the times listed in that wiki quote

2018-07-15 22:39:34 UTC

Oh of course, but its easier to point out amongst the black community when people talk abortions or singlemothers and alot of welfare. Its the result of alot of govt intervention causing the society to regress as a whole

2018-07-15 22:39:58 UTC

Suppose if that's how you want to view it you can.

2018-07-15 22:40:11 UTC

While the others were doing it as in worseon without the need of govt intervention.

2018-07-15 22:40:59 UTC

That one, im not too clear, but ive heard people blame the media or even the decline of morals in general.

2018-07-15 22:41:18 UTC

You've heard that and think it has some merit?

2018-07-15 22:42:40 UTC

I think the declining morals bit has some merit. Issue is that what morals are is very subjective, and well, you might end up regressing as people start censoring stuff for immoral values.

2018-07-15 22:43:20 UTC

I wouldnt call what i think you're talking about a 'decline'

2018-07-15 22:43:25 UTC

Its more so a 'shift'

2018-07-15 22:43:36 UTC

I think thats a better term.

2018-07-15 22:44:31 UTC

You could perhaps list the decline of religious (Christian, Primarily) values as a reason for more births occuring out of wedlock, and higher divorce rates.

2018-07-15 22:44:41 UTC

Still, now peoples morals are focused on doing right by the "oppressed". But morals when it comes to the family unit or openess with sex may have reduced.

2018-07-15 22:45:31 UTC

Sure its a shift, ultimely why I said its very subjective.

2018-07-15 22:46:22 UTC

Im not too sure if relligious values were the main drive for that.

2018-07-15 22:47:03 UTC

Peoples morals and values vary wildly. I dont really have any comment on the first part, but alot of the sacredness of the 'family unit' or 'nuclear family' is related to religious/christian values (Which can be held even by people who arent religious at least in part) Also related to modesty surrounding sex, and whether it feels taboo to talk about it.

2018-07-15 22:47:08 UTC

But I guess relligious values have declined lately as well. Where it counts.

2018-07-15 22:48:24 UTC

Huh didnt realize that, its also the difference between that and well, people who jump around between multiple partners and never marrying.

2018-07-15 22:49:10 UTC

Well, somebody can be a christian, go to church once in a while, pray, but in daily life give it next to no regard.

2018-07-15 22:49:37 UTC

Never putting it to practice?

2018-07-15 22:49:50 UTC

Yeah, you could say that i suppose.

2018-07-15 22:50:23 UTC

Also, im new, but are we in the wrong room?

2018-07-15 22:50:46 UTC

I dont think people care these days. Disussing news is this room.

2018-07-15 22:50:57 UTC

Like the firearms chat is now discussing space battles.

2018-07-15 22:51:28 UTC

Fair enough.

2018-07-15 22:52:01 UTC

Channel used to be just fake news, general and shitposting. Well a fewrooms, with only the shitposting one allowing images.

2018-07-15 22:52:14 UTC

And people chat in each one, didnt really matter.

2018-07-15 22:53:31 UTC

I see.
