their info has to match whats in the pollbooks

2018-07-17 22:08:01 UTC

or they cannot vote

2018-07-17 22:08:23 UTC

they have to update their info

2018-07-17 22:08:26 UTC

Ultimately, it's just hard to prevent fraud.

I had a Union election. The Union made sure to check and double check every single person with ID. Photo ID and designated polling place.

doesnt help that electric ballots arent safe

2018-07-17 22:09:11 UTC

Are paper ballots safe?

2018-07-17 22:09:14 UTC

we use paper and a scanner which is more secure

2018-07-17 22:09:32 UTC

What security measures are in place for those?

2018-07-17 22:09:46 UTC

Which primary was this, may I ask?

2018-07-17 22:09:48 UTC

basically fill out the ballot with your marks then put it in a scanner that counts the votes based on the scan

2018-07-17 22:10:07 UTC

I really don't see how that's different from any other digital method

2018-07-17 22:10:07 UTC

asking me to dox myself lel

2018-07-17 22:10:17 UTC

?

2018-07-17 22:10:25 UTC

I was curious what state and party mostly.

2018-07-17 22:10:41 UTC

Since states have different procedures and parties treat things differently in each state.

2018-07-17 22:10:41 UTC

im messing

2018-07-17 22:10:45 UTC

Virginia

2018-07-17 22:11:03 UTC

it was two party primary

2018-07-17 22:12:04 UTC

scanner drops ballots into a cabinet and at the end of the voting period, we collect the paper

2018-07-17 22:12:26 UTC

scanner then prints multiple receipts recording the votes

2018-07-17 22:13:05 UTC

So really it's more of an automated vote counter.

2018-07-17 22:13:10 UTC

and to my knowledge there is no known way to hack these scanners compared to the electric booths

2018-07-17 22:13:14 UTC

yea

2018-07-17 22:13:33 UTC

it detects errors too

2018-07-17 22:13:48 UTC

like when people mark the ballot wrong it doesnt count it

2018-07-17 22:13:54 UTC

yeah if ppl incorrectly fill out the ballot lol

2018-07-17 22:14:10 UTC

liek how do you do that outside of doing it purposefully as a protest vote

2018-07-17 22:14:14 UTC

People are going to incorrectly fill out anything tho

2018-07-17 22:14:34 UTC

iirc if it goes unfilled it doesnt count those either

2018-07-17 22:14:40 UTC

usually they clearly state, fill out the fuckign dot , dont check it, dont X it just shade it in

2018-07-17 22:14:48 UTC

yea

2018-07-17 22:15:06 UTC

they have instructions

2018-07-17 22:15:13 UTC

people still fuck it up

2018-07-17 22:15:47 UTC

we had 2 people invalidate their votes i think

2018-07-17 22:16:00 UTC

due to marking mistakes

2018-07-17 22:16:16 UTC

and once you fuck up thats it iirc

2018-07-17 22:16:20 UTC

no second try

2018-07-17 22:16:42 UTC

although dont quote me i dont remember exactly

2018-07-17 22:17:47 UTC

yeah i helped with a municipal election here and we used a similar system

2018-07-17 22:17:57 UTC

Regarding the ID thing, I def see its merits, especially from experience as a poll worker but I also think that if only citizens can register to vote in the first place then what's the point, outside of ID theft

2018-07-17 22:18:57 UTC

The assumption that "lefties" make about minorities regarding them does kinda irk me though
