Their attachment, the rich people anyway, was to their money
Social and political repercussions yes. War, that's their choice. They chose wrongly and they lost.
And, even then, states like New York profited from the slave trade as a result of being a major port city. So, even though the banned it, they remained an important hub of keeping it going.
Yet they still fought to end it
Social repercussions as in not actually giving them any time to adjust and change to enable a smooth transition from slavery to abolition.
No, they didn’t.
Really
Hmm
Recall the New York Draft riots of 1863?
They didn’t want to end the institution because they weren’t fighting for that purpose, especially the countless thousands of Irishmen drafted to fight the war.
448,850 New Yorkers joined
*Drafted.
We've already established 2% conscripts and 6% substitutes
Apparently that statistic is bullshit because 2% of an army being drafted doesn’t cause literal riots
New York was negative impacted by the draft the most, which is why there were major riots in New York City and elsewhere.
Wrong again, revisionist
The rioters were pissed that blacks could take their jobs, and that rich people could get out of serving. A similar provision in the south was that a man with 20 or more slaves was exempt from the draft
Wrong again, Yankee.
I did.
Read the sources also
And read the sources.
Yankee.
Call me whatever, better than someone who believes in slavery and lies
Can't trust verified academic research though. In this debate we will only rely on sources which support revisionism that the actual Confederates didn't believe in, supported only by documents which were miraculously and so inconveniently lost at the end of the war
Wonder why the Confederacy said it would execute all black soldiers taken prisoner and their white officers
I can't imagine why after the annihilation of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry they threw the officers in a mass grave and when the families asked for the body of Robert Shaw to be returned, the southern government said "we buried him with his niggers"
I will say that slavery was not caused by racism though. In fact racism was caused by slavery as a justification for something so clearly contrary to Christian morals
Generally it was forbidden to own Christian slaves
Of course because there were many Muslim slaves. Not captured civilians in raids, not sold by their own people, but actually prisoners taken in war
Holy fuck was that rage quit number 2?
