It seems interesting that earthquakes seemingly happen around the same time on different parts of the world. At one point the USGS said that it wasn't possible for an earthquake on one side of the world to cause another, though I think that's changed.
Granted, the one in Africa could have to do with the African rift zone which isn't a fault line and wouldn't be "connected" to the earth's extensive network of fault zones

The "now" would suggest that another similar event had occurred elsewhere, likely referring to the alaska quake

When it's the same fault zone or the same tectonic plate, yes. Between Alaska and Africa are at least a few fault zones and tectonic plates. It wasn't originally believed that the energy could be transferred that far
