It's been used for a while now. Look at Operation Chokepoint and all the financial organizations rallying against the firearms industry.

2018-12-11 00:00:17 UTC

If an association could have a vote and organize a credible threat to leave a platform as a bloc, that would give bargaining power.

2018-12-11 00:00:33 UTC

Well I mean the obvious imperfect answer is crypto and physical money transfer when available

2018-12-11 00:00:40 UTC

Also, Atkins, since I can't DM you, you REALLY should look at my minds page. There's stuff there I'd want to share with you that I wouldn't want to put on an open server.

2018-12-11 00:01:04 UTC

That's about as unsubtle a hint as I can give.

2018-12-11 00:01:36 UTC

Ok, you answered your own question Beemann. I've told you why I think crypto is a poor long term solution. But that's not the point here.

2018-12-11 00:02:50 UTC

I wouldn't consider it a long term solution, but rather a stopgap

2018-12-11 00:03:14 UTC

Whatever works. The point is to start seriously talking about organizing to fight censorship.

2018-12-11 00:04:34 UTC

Another issue is how international this shit is. It may become necessary to consolidate numbers, simply on the basis of being able to shift at least one country and/or facilitate service-free money transfer

2018-12-11 00:05:00 UTC

Not sure what you mean by consolidate numbers

2018-12-11 00:06:03 UTC

I think he means geographically concentrating.

2018-12-11 00:06:04 UTC

We're a political minority spread across multiple continents with most of our infrastructure being potentially compromised as a result. It may be necessary to consolidate numbers physically in one or a few locations

2018-12-11 00:06:39 UTC

As much as people seem to hate meatspace it does have its undeniable advantages

2018-12-11 00:07:14 UTC

You mean physically move people? That's a massive investment. I don't think it's feasible for most people.

2018-12-11 00:07:27 UTC

I would be strongly against that as a potential gatekeep.

2018-12-11 00:07:42 UTC

just hire some NGOs

2018-12-11 00:07:43 UTC

lmao

2018-12-11 00:07:44 UTC

Also, I'd argue geographic dispersion is a strength, it's harder to target.

2018-12-11 00:08:23 UTC

All of our communication, money transfer, and resource networks are potentially compromised unless they're on the blockchain

2018-12-11 00:08:46 UTC

If MasterCard decides to yeet this, what's the backup?

2018-12-11 00:09:32 UTC

You don't. you form small local groups and communicate with alternative methods.

2018-12-11 00:09:41 UTC

There's still open radio for example.

2018-12-11 00:09:56 UTC

And if the networks are so dead, how exactly does anything get done at all?

2018-12-11 00:10:17 UTC

At that point, you're stuck geographically consolidated whether you like it or not.

2018-12-11 00:10:19 UTC

The networks haven't been yeeted now, that doesn't mean they won't ever be

2018-12-11 00:10:23 UTC

@Beemann BITCOIN CRYPTO /s

2018-12-11 00:11:02 UTC

We've discussed crypto, honestly. It's just bad as anything more than a temporary replacement unfortunately

2018-12-11 00:11:32 UTC

I'm still going to say that trying to move people en masse is a bad idea.

2018-12-11 00:11:45 UTC

That's really expensive and risky for most people.

2018-12-11 00:11:57 UTC

And it's a good way to isolate yourself in the long run.

2018-12-11 00:12:12 UTC

I would say less so gated libertarian community, more physical backup

2018-12-11 00:12:26 UTC

What's that supposed to mean exactly?

2018-12-11 00:12:54 UTC

Because if you say "move to X" or "X is where we do Y" you're setting up a soft gatekeep whether you want to or not.

2018-12-11 00:13:11 UTC

Okay so the Euros are actually not in a terrible position since a lot of them already visit each other, particularly the UK lads

2018-12-11 00:13:52 UTC

Still have to deal with jobs and stuff for everyone moving.

2018-12-11 00:15:22 UTC

Oh, and looking up I'll point out that the right is just as anti-libertarian as the left. Both wants the right to silence people who don't think like them. Until recently it was the right that tried to muzzle creators like comic books, movies, and games. All those ratings systems were an effort to keep from being censored by the right, not the left.

2018-12-11 00:15:53 UTC

Ok, left right doesn't really matter much does it? It's policies that matter. Not teams.

2018-12-11 00:16:08 UTC

Let's not divide ourselves on historical faultlines.

2018-12-11 00:16:15 UTC

^^ AGREEED

2018-12-11 00:16:53 UTC

So I'll rephrase. Keep your religion out of my bedroom, my movies, my games, my comics, and my life

2018-12-11 00:16:54 UTC

US/Canada is a bigger problem but there's probably a way to physically link people
