Free time in PLA or other foreign armies...no silly shit whatsoever

No DUIs, drunken orgies, etc

I usually stayed in my room

I usually mock my Marine sister, "oh I have to smoke all the time because I'm a faggot and I'm in the military"

Wasn't too social but in 3/2 the body builders invited me to work out and beat me into shape. Not like punches and kicks but in your face yelling and throwing or pushing

Really helped motivate me and get me to work harder at it

In 4/2 just threw up my hands and said fuck it

My father in law joined the PLA in like 1979...no rank structure and enlisted men didn't actually get paid back then, it was your duty so why should you get paid was the party's philosophy

No private, sergeant etc. Just soldier, squad leader, platoon leader etc

PL and up got paid like $100 a month

Free time was spent casually drinking and playing Chinese chess or other board games, reading the only book legal in the whole country at the time, or with family

They loved Quotations from Mao so much that they'd get hundreds of copies, so they could take the covers off and glue it on the outside of illegal books and no one would notice
