And I disagree with his thesis.

2018-11-08 23:49:17 UTC

@DrYuriMom how so?

2018-11-08 23:49:19 UTC

You can blame behavioral regularities on genes whether they impact the way they vote or not.

2018-11-08 23:50:09 UTC

Aren't you claiming behavioral difference based on "racial" genetics?

2018-11-08 23:50:27 UTC

I'm claiming behavioral differences based on genetics.

2018-11-08 23:50:46 UTC

Oh!

2018-11-08 23:51:02 UTC

Cat is a Confuzzled Cat

2018-11-08 23:51:40 UTC

@DrYuriMom I’m not the one who thinks that differences in race majorly influence behaviors.

2018-11-08 23:51:44 UTC

You can't even do that Dev. Behavior is also influenced by environment. While the linkage to some basic behaviors to genes is evident, environment also works in the same sphere. And once behaviors themselves are muddied up with environmental factors, then so is the correlation to everything downstream of these base behaviors, like political beliefs

2018-11-08 23:52:29 UTC

From the very root of people's behavior, environment fights with genes, and the further downstream you get with the more compound emergent behaviors, the more environment is displayed over genetics

2018-11-08 23:52:35 UTC

I'm claiming that genetics has a greater role in explaining behavioral differences betwen you and your 1000th cousin than between you and your first cousin, which shouldn't be debatable.

2018-11-08 23:52:48 UTC

I don't even acknowledge such a thing as race. All traits are a range and they can appear in anyone. We all mix genetics and have been fir millions of years but particularly the past six thousand.

2018-11-08 23:53:14 UTC

It is absolutely debatable. If my 1000th cousin is my adopted borther, and my 1st cousin lives in the hood we will absolutely act differently

2018-11-08 23:53:26 UTC

We've done a lot more diverging than mixing over the last 150,000 years.

2018-11-08 23:54:07 UTC

I'll only grant you 50/50 for the most basic behaviors for genes and environment, but as I've said, the further you complicate an observed action by a human, the more environment takes over genes

2018-11-08 23:54:18 UTC

Over the past 150,000 years, yes. But in the past 6000 years, we've been converging. Especially the past 500.

2018-11-08 23:54:27 UTC

Cousin degree refers to genetic distance, it has absolutely nothing to do with adoption.

2018-11-08 23:54:45 UTC

I know you mongoloid

2018-11-08 23:54:53 UTC

And personally I thing broader mixing of genes is a good thing.

2018-11-08 23:54:54 UTC

I'm saying that environment will compete against genes in that situation

2018-11-08 23:54:56 UTC

I would though say race very much is a real thing. Just that the some claimed differences simply are not there whilst some are.
Skincolor does not come from nowhere, right? Perhaps you have a different view on this? @DrYuriMom
There is a reason as to why there almost always is a black sprinter winning the Olympics

2018-11-08 23:55:20 UTC

The most basic point that I made today completely flew over your head

2018-11-08 23:55:29 UTC

@DrWittMDPhD Dev really doesn’t understand genetics. He pretty much just assumes genetics influences everything. He then says ‘well environment too’ when proven wrong

2018-11-08 23:56:04 UTC

Race is simply natural selection acting when slow transport kept populations isolated

2018-11-08 23:56:40 UTC

I explained earlier about how melanin protects against cancer but worsens rickets

2018-11-08 23:57:21 UTC

That's why equatorial peoples selected for dark skin and polar peoples for light skin. That's all there is to it.

2018-11-08 23:57:37 UTC

and doesn't continous education and expansion of knowledge and logic expand and better overall IQ..?

2018-11-08 23:58:06 UTC

Biological evolution involves natural selection and genetic drift.

2018-11-08 23:58:14 UTC

Yes

2018-11-08 23:58:34 UTC

@Rickard yes. Plus, it’s difficult to say how much IQ itself affects behavior.

2018-11-08 23:58:40 UTC

Right, don't address my basic point that you tripped over.

2018-11-08 23:59:01 UTC

But we've been converging for 6000 years as transportation has improved

2018-11-08 23:59:41 UTC

Horses. Boats. Lots of migration.

2018-11-08 23:59:42 UTC

Transportation alone isn't mixing the entire global population all that much.

2018-11-09 00:00:24 UTC

@Salacious Swanky Cat yeah, i'm not even trying to argue on that point, just widen the overall discussion.

My angle is that there still is nothing speaking for genetics infuencing political belief

2018-11-09 00:01:17 UTC

Hitler was a smart lad on many aspects, still a socialist.

2018-11-09 00:01:30 UTC

@Rickard I know. I’m just putting it out there.

2018-11-09 00:02:09 UTC

Being communist, socialist, kapitalist etc. is most likely not realted to IQ nor race.
@Salacious Swanky Cat 👍

2018-11-09 00:02:40 UTC

having a high IQ doesnt make you immune to stupidity as a lot of ppl seem to think these days

2018-11-09 00:02:44 UTC

@Rickard I agree.

2018-11-09 00:03:20 UTC

Class or economic success is related to IQ. That's one big reason why psychologists care about it.
