so that argument isn't really strong
well, if you listen to haidt or peterson they'd say that people on the right tend to have strong disgust reactions. i'd say that a lot of right-wing types get squicked out pretty hard by the antics at gay pride parades.
But are gays left?
But with that said, I'm not saying you don't deserve a family and love. It just might not work out
Or is "left' an economic thing?
the left thinks they OWN all the gays votes
People keep calling me an outlier, but I will keep saying I get rather peeved when people call *me* the destruction of the family when I've been married faithfully for 29 years and have two wonderful kids, 17yo and 19yo. I get that from divorcees. They can pound sand as far as I'm concerned.
The destruction of the family are stupid irresponsible teenagers who have kids in high school and get married as soon as they're 18
I got married at 19yo. Still married to this day. 😃
Atkins, I agree about the Pride Parade stuff. It squicks me out. 😕
Keywords "stupid irresponsible"
^^Fair enough
There are certainly fringe cases of responsible intelligent teens finding their partners
I suppose the real topic for you Cat is what your background/family is which isnt a conversation for here lol. but you might've had a pretty healthy upbringing or are the most patient person on the planet to last in marriage that long
>The destruction of the family are stupid irresponsible teenagers who have kids in high school and get married as soon as they're 18
The other way around
And I'm happy for you being one of them. Just means you get to spend more time with wonderful peoolet
there's data on this. People that sleep around more tend to divorce at much higher rates
Most people that developed under the boomer parent revolution ended up fucked, and it isn't getting any better
I owe my parents everything and have an amazing dad...even if he's somewhat to the left of Karl Marx. 😦
lol
My wife and I have been 100% faithful since we started really dating in 1989.
And you've avoided lbd? :P
Anyway, we'll see how data comes in over time. but having spent time with many couples in many places of this country, it doesn't matter what sex the partners are but rather their stubbornness to make it work that really matters.
lbd?
lesbian bed death. my les couple friend joke about it
Huh, that's a new one on me
It would really help LGBT advocacy if there were fewer highly visible weirdos and more visible people like Rubin, Thiel, Paglia, and Murray. No tattoos, piercings, dyed hair or outlandish dress. Just articulate professionals. Lots of such people exist of course, but they're not out front. The weirdos are.
oh yeah? Might warrant a google search, i'd do it poor justice to explain
Once again, we come to agreement Atkins
Hence why I've chosen to share. I hate activism but I do want those on the center-right to know rational professional GLBT peeps do exists. We just want to be permitted to live quietly like other folks. I carry a lot of labels proudly, but honestly i'd love for my GLBT labels to just vanish because no one cares.
You're explaining my aunt and uncle, Atkins. Professor of music and a cop. But they did come from a different generation having seen shit and really been through discrimination and pain. Maybe Cat knows about that.
But gen x and millenials I don't think know anything about that.
I went through some shit but I'm still here
I'm not owed anything because life isn't fair and I kept my head high
I think more than anything, kids don't realize that life isn't fair. They aren't owed anything. And shit happens. Really smelly shit.
Healthcare has taught me that 2yo's get cancer, drunk drivers kill random people, and occasionally you're just in the wrong place at the wrong time
I think that's indicitive of your generation as well as that upbringing, that ya understand that. I think the economy and having free/cheap shit being slowly introduced since foreign import (mostly from China in the 70s-80s) have made that "free" society a crutch
It was like a butterfly effect that looked great on paper but crippled us
And changed so much more than our dollar
I try to distance myself from a life of ignorant convenience.
