What if the guy doesn't want to die?

2018-11-30 23:39:55 UTC

What if he's found innocent 10 years in?

2018-11-30 23:40:10 UTC

no, AFTER they have served 50 years

2018-11-30 23:40:19 UTC

Why?

2018-11-30 23:40:28 UTC

How did you choose this as the cut off point?

2018-11-30 23:40:30 UTC

well, we could hash out the exact number

2018-11-30 23:40:39 UTC

itll never be perfect

2018-11-30 23:40:45 UTC

but we should try ^^

2018-11-30 23:41:15 UTC

i'd go with 10-20 years before execution. i think 50 is to long

2018-11-30 23:41:34 UTC

this is just based on if you have taken half their life in years torturing them, they are probably too old to really live life anymore. They will have a hard time getting a job, even if they were jailed in their 20s. And they will just be a drain on any family they have left. assuming they even talk to them anymore

2018-11-30 23:41:35 UTC

Who are you to choose when it's OK to execute people?

2018-11-30 23:41:54 UTC

who are you to choose to keep someone confined to a box for their entire life?

2018-11-30 23:42:06 UTC

how is that at all better

2018-11-30 23:42:14 UTC

I'm not. And most would say it's a lot better

2018-11-30 23:42:20 UTC

is it?

2018-11-30 23:42:26 UTC

you know that your argument kinda falls flat as life expectancy increases right?

2018-11-30 23:42:28 UTC

That's a matter of opinion isn't it

2018-11-30 23:42:32 UTC

and knowing your children are suffering because you are in prison would be torture

2018-11-30 23:42:43 UTC

But if you kill someone you're taking away anyone's choice who wants to live

2018-11-30 23:42:44 UTC

@.B then you increase the time given to find innocence.

2018-11-30 23:43:00 UTC

or find the max time after the fact innocence has been found.

2018-11-30 23:43:09 UTC

I don't like that we don't have a better option than jail. I don't. That doesn't mean I'm OK with execution.

2018-11-30 23:43:13 UTC

why are you determined to kill them?

2018-11-30 23:43:33 UTC

grenades point is that after being imprisoned for that long they wont have a life left.

2018-11-30 23:43:33 UTC

because they A) cost money B) i don't find torture better than killing

2018-11-30 23:43:51 UTC

jail != torture

2018-11-30 23:43:59 UTC

But execution costs more money if you give them due process

2018-11-30 23:44:09 UTC

The standard for execution is much higher than jailing

2018-11-30 23:44:16 UTC

as it should be

2018-11-30 23:44:19 UTC

find me innocent after 10 years okay cool. now you have to fix the damage thats done to my family. if you kill me they at least get a fat payout

2018-11-30 23:44:39 UTC

I don't want to live in a country with a gulag where we can just drag people out to put a bullet in them because some people think that's fine

2018-11-30 23:44:39 UTC

you would still be alive after 10 years servered tho

2018-11-30 23:44:48 UTC

@Jes nice way to incentive the family killing you

2018-11-30 23:45:08 UTC

im talking about being excuted for a crime i didnt commit

2018-11-30 23:45:11 UTC

or are you determined to strawman my idea by remove that "min time severed" requirement.

2018-11-30 23:45:18 UTC

@Jes exactly

2018-11-30 23:45:25 UTC

got 50 years to find you innocent.

2018-11-30 23:45:34 UTC

The minimum time served is entirely arbitrary based on your personal opinion.

2018-11-30 23:45:53 UTC

Just because we have to limit some freedoms in extreme cases it doesn't mean we should go further.

2018-11-30 23:45:56 UTC

well i dont know any parents that wouldnt die for their children

2018-11-30 23:46:28 UTC

hey, like i said, i'd prefer exile.
