I don't know, Trump seems to be doing pretty well with his support for that prison reform list
yes.... but that is also partly due to our system
although more true of people in for drug charges
i mean, if you are arrested for drug dealing, then kicked out on your ass with nothing but still know all your contacts, is that a surprise? You don't have much options. Even if you only do it short term to get your feet back under you, if you get caught, you are done.
you are all raising good points on this. I really believe "better 10 guilty go free than one innocent goes to jail" that said im not anti the death penalty. its a tough one
People in jail have plenty of free time on their hands.
If they waste it and then try to figure out what to do with their life *after* jail, isn't that on them?
So are executions really a better option to fix this than creating systems to help former prisoners who are willing to show that they've reformed back on their feet?
@taekahn our jail system doesn't exactly incentivize becoming a better person.
Blackstone's formulation is likely to be better accepted in a safe, orderly, law-abiding society than a dangerous, chaotic, crime-ridden society.
@Schedrevka how do you rehabilitate someone that just spent 25 years in a prison?
I don't know. I'm not anywhere near qualified to decide that.
Blackstone's formulation is idealistic, and isn't going to help improve the lives of the average Honduran or Somalian.
I agree, i think it should.
But i don't think it disincentives it either.
ollr ethfair point, me ei
Training of some sort would be a good start.
fair point me either that should have said lol
@Schedrevka you are executing someone who will never be allowed back into the world to BE a better person. I was talking about those people who get life without possibility of parole.
I think this issue will cease to exist when exile becomes an option
That's an incredibly fatalistic view.
exile worked with austrailia.
and I don't think it will be solved until then
Lets send criminals to mars
Fuck that
to form a society like they did down under
Send them to an asteroid. Make Mars Great Again.
And why is it so much better to kill them than to try and fix the system?
nah australia has gone to shit
True
@Schedrevka mass murder who killed 10 people? Serial killer? Terrorist? do YOU trust these people?
they passed a resolution in parliment that it is not okay to be white
Terrorists typically die in the blast 😏
If only we had some place we could put these people where they don't hurt others, but are still able to live.
I would phrase that, "they refused to pass an resolution that it is ok to be white."
Slightly different, but an important difference
fair
the problem then becomes, are they allowed to kill each other when exiled?
in exile they would be outside the law
as they would be outside the juristiction
so technically could just kill each other
Ted Kaczynski, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer? you would trust these people to sit next to you? be near your kids? maybe Ted since he actually had a reason.
If only we had some place we could put these people where they don't hurt others, but are still able to live.
