To clarify the article. Every year over a 100 criminals are convicted of violent crimes, they get their jail time and is expelled out of the country. (Max jail time is 16 years) some convicted criminals can not be sent home because the UN declare them persecuted in their homeland. So they are released out into society after end jail time. The purpose of the island is to house the repeat offenders after they finished their jail time. Because the UN says they are persecuted refugees that the Danish government most provide for including housing.
