It's not. That's my point. Artificially choosing winners on criteria having nothing to do with ability is not unique to the US.

It had a purpose when we were creating a level playing field, I suppose. But the playing field is leveling out. I need to make sure anyone can win based on objective criteria and then get our thumbs off the scale.

One of the best explinations of what is wrong with the US comes from Charles Barkley of all people.
