One of the main differences between republican 'big government' and democrat 'big government' is that the republican side of things, the government is facing outward, so to speak.

I, for instance, am not opposed to a powerful government framework to protect from external threats.

But I'm not so okay with government funding industries, art, or various other unnecessary things.
