Obama does seem to bounce back and forth between making anti id-pol statements that get ignored, and then making very pro-idpol statements when convenient
not sure how long it would take to pay back a degree on a waiters salary in the states, here eduaction is muuch much cheaper so its essentially funded by the state
and go figure students still protest that education is too expensive here
yeah, i get that... thats the concept of college in the US in general... but you would have to get a degree in something that a) pays good and b) has actual job prospects in the first place...
...if you go for a gender study degree the only jobs you can get with that is diversitysomething and barista at starbucks.
Obama has been going against safe spaces for a couple years now.
There are more jobs in the diversity/inclusion market than you'd think. That's a big part of why college costs have skyrocketed as they have.
In practice from what his admin did in power is a very different story.
And it's hard to say exactly how much of it he takes and where he draws his lines.
Then there's also jobs like HR
But yes, he's been telling kids to listen to their opponents.
yes but the issue is,
Has he been saying tha because he was on his way out, so it didn't matter for him anymore?
yeah pretty much any administration job in the social studies can be gotten with a gender studies degree
I should note I haven't actually heard him single out and stand up for anyone though (like that thing at Business Insider or the NYTimes)
so his influence seems minimal at best IMO
@I AM ERROR
There's also a burgeoning and rapidly growing industry of diversity consultants.
See: Starbucks or Google.
You can call it extracting rent if you want, but they are pulling in money.
that diversity stuff is not a job with a future
the real question is when will bloated beurocracy come and bite back in the ass of teh profit margins of these companies/univercities
Dunno about the states, but a lot of bank jobs are just any degree
Lower tier bank jobs mind, but the pay isn't that bad
and does not have enough positions outside of college administrations.
that's why i said that is does not have a future, pratel
If you can create a situation where the market has no alternative, it doesn't matter. (See, for example academia. Find me a Uni besides Hillsdale that doesn't place SocJus)
(And Hillsdale doesn't count because it's hamstrung on it's own to where it'll never really replace anything)
You're missing the part where it moves outside colleges.
Like Starbucks.
Next economic downturn you think those jobs will survive?
It's not terribly complicated. You get a class of angry activists who will hound any business who steps out of line and you have a rentier class that 'fixes' the problem for money.
yeah silicon valley has a hard on for divercity consultants
yeah... starbucks... are they still a thing?
And it's not just SV, it's moving outside rapidly.
Starbucks is still doing well.
especially with all teh PR fallout from these stupid Papa Johns-esque incidents
I've seen military contractors going full SocJus.
i can see there being an uptick of hiring in that feild
Who are about the last people you'd expect.
That's the whole idea.
but again the real question is how long these manufactured incidents keep happening and if they stop how long they can ride on those coattails
LOL yeah ROBOT POWER
