That hairstyle on Sarah Jeong makes much more sense.
Also yeah, stealth editing needs to be countered somehow
NewsDiffs and archive sites are good, but knowledge of them isn't widespread enough
I wonder who flags an article that "needs" edited. Is it an editor who notices something and demands it be rephrased or is it a response to angry tweets from activists?
In this case, it was obviously some "you can't be racist to white people" idiot who demanded it be changed.
If I had to guess, when people quote the article in a way that makes it sound as bad as it really is, somebody notices and says "We need to make this sound less bad"
and vice-versa for anti-right wing/conservative articles
Really, though, their database should be tracking all changes to any article, when they were made, etc., and then the website should be taking that metadata and displaying it whether they like it or not
@Timcast speaking of editing http://gothamist.com/2018/08/02/ny_times_defends_hiring_writer_with.php
“Term’s use by white supremecists”
lol
nyt really is evil
stealth editing is evil
defending racists to serve your agenda is evil
i dont care if jeong is racist
I care that they fired quinn norton for similar bullshit
they have no principles
Knowing the NYT, they'd probably say their principles are "flexible"
And then later stealth edit that to say "flawless"
Idk if it was hyperbole or my misunderstanding but I remember news reporting that Indy business we're putting signs out that said no gays allowed when a bill allowing the businesses some room in that regards
From what I remember news was reporting that the businesses were doing that
However it never had happened and I can't find the old articles anymore
This was like 3-6 years ago
@ExceptionalFeather tim talked about a site that archives the news stories from the editing i forgot what it was called @Timcast
You could prob find it there
they dont get em all though
There it is
Some news sites block archiving though that’s why it doesnt get all of then
That's another scummy practice
"People were pointing out how shitty we are, so we made it so they can't do that any more"
I wonder why news orgs would want to block that 🤔
Oh, I'm sure it's some mundane reason that anybody on the street would agree with.
Good tool though, bookmarking for sure.
To protect thier “credibility”
To “change” history
Tim said this before , You google Richard Spencer in the UK , you can’t find anything racist about him or something like that . History gets scrubbed
Serious question, and I get the hyperbole, but at what points is the media the enemy of the people
is it when they doxx people
