it is still quite new
but it is federated which is a plus
I don't even use twitter anyway
but federated is pretty rad
I actually like the idea of twitter, basically thinking of it as a big chatroom. it's terrible for serious discussion of course.
It's cool, but doesn't interest me all that much
*maximum default message length is 500 charactets*
i see twitter more like a rss feed
With twitter and the small character limit, every tweet seemed like a bold declarative statement. A recipe for the most arguments of any medium. You would be actively punished with less viewership for going more in-depth. It became difficult to read your posts as one whole.
With tumblr..
The problem is less obvious with tumblr, but just as malignant.
Suppose everyone you follow on tumblr is in some sort of heated argument.
From your perspective, everyone you follow is DUNKING on their opponents all the time.
iirc on mastodon you can limit who can read the post, followers only etc
No one you follow is ever wrong.
1st and 2nd parties are arguing. 3rd party only follows the first.
The 3rd party only knows the 2nd party won the argument when the 1st party chooses to reblog it. And guess how often that happens.
yeah twitter "threaded conversations" are the wurst
moldy wurst
wish Usenet or something like mailists take over next
remember forums
good times
most are not that threaded
threaded is doo doo
donate to my patreon
discourse got some threading, but is more like twitters where it only shows replies
talkyard.io is similar to how reddit looks
Forums are great
I still use a few
most forums are dead now
That's sad, but true
everything has moved to facebook 😦
even "websites" have moved to facebook
Which makes no sense and is very not fun
facebook is like the exclusive in-group at the moment
Facebook is like the ridiculous social network super-power big brother at the moment
"exclusive"
I don't get why you can't access facebook stuffs without being a member
was reading an article on people talking about that "the social platform for everyone" is doomed to fail
because they won't be able to make money from you or your data if you don't have an account
