nitric acid is indeed also neccessary for making nitroglycerin which is the main component of dynamite

Ammoniumnitrate is generaly speaking a better explosive, it has both a very high energy but also its not voltaile. You need high temperatures to start the reaction/explostion

it's an oxidizer

not an explosive

and while there are mixtures with it, it alone can indeed also blow. You need a detonator though which isnt the case for dynamite, which is good as its safer to handle

it'll just slowly react with the air if it's lit

you need a fuel mixed in

it usually snuffs itself out like potassium nitrate or pretty much any other nitrate salt

it's a good way to get pure nitric acid

and the dynamite they used to loosen the mixture obviously... well, as i said, it needs a detonator...

I don't know the reaction of ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate
