If anything, it's not that Fox moved to the center. It's that the other networks are just crazy. Crazier than Fox somehow.

War on Christmas mattered alot to alot of people.

They just aren't in the same numbers anymore.

There are people who would say the same thing about being anti-social justice.

War on Christmas has been a thing since atleast the 80s.

Probably earlier.

The really religious types have always felt Christmas is too secular.

Too commercialized.

I'm sure there's an analog in the Islamic world for example.

The closest analog these days is probably all the social justice types objecting to "appropriation" and people selling things inspired by indigenous cultures.

But that's a thing in the other networks now.

Again, Fox didn't really change from what I can tell (except reworking everything to support Trump and trying to stay alive through the Media Matters onslaught). But the other networks got into some kind of ridiculous purity spiral.

And now they make fox look tame.

But said purity spiral is not constrained to the media.

It was academia in the 90s.

And SF/NYC/Boston/LA/etc have been following behind.

idk, I've watched some of their stuff. They toned down a bit. and by a bit, i mean like a person or 2. The other stations definitely went so far as to make them look good without them moving much at all.

maybe its just that, the other side went so far left, they didn't need to hyperbolize as much to get views.

Mostly, I think it's just that the country has gotten far less religious recently. And I'm guessing you're probably not terribly religious so now that's no longer such a high point it doesn't really rub you anymore.

Fox has actually grown really fast.

well, truth is often controversial nowadays so I guess just telling how it is can give you clicks alone sometimes

It was only founded in the late 90s and was leading the ratings of the cable channels as early as the 2000s IIRC

it was my main problem with republican platform in general. too dependent on specifically the christian religion.

The thing you have to realize is that Fox is a bubble.

The left, and a good bit of the center won't trust anything coming out of it.

It's just a different bubble than the rest of the media.

A bubble that better aligns with the markets not served by the mainstream presses (like the rural areas of the country).

I trust events, not motives

The thing (and this is something that the postmodernists understand and understand well) is that facts, or atleast the presentation of them, can be easily and directly manipulated by the people providing it.

Everyone is familiar with the "spin" exercises in grade school where you take a given event and spin it in a positive and negative way.
