like the war on christmas

2018-08-24 20:53:10 UTC

If anything, it's not that Fox moved to the center. It's that the other networks are just crazy. Crazier than Fox somehow.

2018-08-24 20:53:24 UTC

War on Christmas mattered alot to alot of people.

2018-08-24 20:53:36 UTC

They just aren't in the same numbers anymore.

2018-08-24 20:54:16 UTC

There are people who would say the same thing about being anti-social justice.

2018-08-24 20:54:49 UTC

it wasn't a think, it all started over starbuck's holiday cup

2018-08-24 20:55:07 UTC

War on Christmas has been a thing since atleast the 80s.

2018-08-24 20:55:12 UTC

Probably earlier.

2018-08-24 20:55:27 UTC

The really religious types have always felt Christmas is too secular.

2018-08-24 20:55:31 UTC

Too commercialized.

2018-08-24 20:55:50 UTC

I'm sure there's an analog in the Islamic world for example.

2018-08-24 20:55:52 UTC

Tucker is ok but tv is dead

2018-08-24 20:55:57 UTC

its always been commercialized

2018-08-24 20:56:16 UTC

hell, even when the church picked it, it was basically a marketing move

2018-08-24 20:56:40 UTC

"Tell you what, you can keep drinking and celebrating Yule, but this is Jesus's b-day party now? okay?"

2018-08-24 20:57:01 UTC

Doesn't change the fact there were people who didn't like it.

2018-08-24 20:57:41 UTC

oh for sure

2018-08-24 20:57:51 UTC

The closest analog these days is probably all the social justice types objecting to "appropriation" and people selling things inspired by indigenous cultures.

2018-08-24 20:58:04 UTC

But that's a thing in the other networks now.

2018-08-24 20:58:56 UTC

Again, Fox didn't really change from what I can tell (except reworking everything to support Trump and trying to stay alive through the Media Matters onslaught). But the other networks got into some kind of ridiculous purity spiral.

2018-08-24 20:59:03 UTC

And now they make fox look tame.

2018-08-24 20:59:22 UTC

But said purity spiral is not constrained to the media.

2018-08-24 20:59:27 UTC

It was academia in the 90s.

2018-08-24 20:59:55 UTC

And SF/NYC/Boston/LA/etc have been following behind.

2018-08-24 21:00:01 UTC

idk, I've watched some of their stuff. They toned down a bit. and by a bit, i mean like a person or 2. The other stations definitely went so far as to make them look good without them moving much at all.

2018-08-24 21:00:30 UTC

maybe its just that, the other side went so far left, they didn't need to hyperbolize as much to get views.

2018-08-24 21:01:02 UTC

Mostly, I think it's just that the country has gotten far less religious recently. And I'm guessing you're probably not terribly religious so now that's no longer such a high point it doesn't really rub you anymore.

2018-08-24 21:01:16 UTC

that would be correct

2018-08-24 21:01:20 UTC

Fox has actually grown really fast.

2018-08-24 21:01:29 UTC

well, truth is often controversial nowadays so I guess just telling how it is can give you clicks alone sometimes

2018-08-24 21:01:39 UTC

It was only founded in the late 90s and was leading the ratings of the cable channels as early as the 2000s IIRC

2018-08-24 21:01:49 UTC

it was my main problem with republican platform in general. too dependent on specifically the christian religion.

2018-08-24 21:01:54 UTC

The thing you have to realize is that Fox is a bubble.

2018-08-24 21:02:08 UTC

The left, and a good bit of the center won't trust anything coming out of it.

2018-08-24 21:02:22 UTC

It's just a different bubble than the rest of the media.

2018-08-24 21:02:52 UTC

A bubble that better aligns with the markets not served by the mainstream presses (like the rural areas of the country).

2018-08-24 21:03:07 UTC

i don't think anyone has doubted that

2018-08-24 21:03:12 UTC

I trust events, not motives

2018-08-24 21:03:55 UTC

The thing (and this is something that the postmodernists understand and understand well) is that facts, or atleast the presentation of them, can be easily and directly manipulated by the people providing it.

2018-08-24 21:04:34 UTC

Everyone is familiar with the "spin" exercises in grade school where you take a given event and spin it in a positive and negative way.

2018-08-24 21:04:50 UTC

cherry picking and wording go a long way
