I think neglecting historical and cultural education will have detrimental effects in the long run

2018-08-27 19:53:13 UTC

It will.

2018-08-27 19:53:20 UTC

history is written by the victors

2018-08-27 19:53:24 UTC

So many students today don't even know their history... fail at economics... and develop crippling depression because they are socially inept.

2018-08-27 19:53:27 UTC

@Dusty Morgan only solution is to home school your kid

2018-08-27 19:53:32 UTC

But it's also how this stuff has moved into it's position.

2018-08-27 19:53:42 UTC

Socialization is a problem for home schooled kids

2018-08-27 19:53:49 UTC

@Rabbi Shekels and not even that's a solution.

2018-08-27 19:53:50 UTC

Not insurmountable

2018-08-27 19:53:59 UTC

But it's a lot harder that way

2018-08-27 19:54:09 UTC

Swns them to private not public indoctrination camps

2018-08-27 19:54:11 UTC

Since you need materials and it usually only helps the small fraction able to do so.

2018-08-27 19:54:17 UTC

you can't fix the school system because all its problems exist even when its left to home schooling.

2018-08-27 19:54:32 UTC

You also have to deal with regulators dictating the curricula.

2018-08-27 19:54:38 UTC

most people have come kind of dogma they follow

2018-08-27 19:54:42 UTC
2018-08-27 19:54:43 UTC

How about writing our congressmen and making a petition to bar political and religious dogma from our schools?

2018-08-27 19:54:45 UTC

So you might not even get a choice.

2018-08-27 19:55:00 UTC

From public schools? Sure

2018-08-27 19:55:19 UTC

I graduated from a catholic hs

2018-08-27 19:55:33 UTC

Add a claus to our 1st amendment barring manipulation by political and religious dogma, opening up teachers to be fired for this crap.

2018-08-27 19:55:36 UTC

Gave up on religion shortly after

2018-08-27 19:55:43 UTC

@Dusty Morgan you can try, but it's not likely to succeed. A Big issue is that congressmen are limited in what they can actually do. This works well for them, they get to issue statements and get elected and then do nothing.

2018-08-27 19:56:04 UTC

There's also a more cynical motivation

2018-08-27 19:56:11 UTC

They could add a clause to the amendment, fixing this issue.

2018-08-27 19:56:15 UTC

Teachers do get fired or reprimanded, but it's generally only in very red school districts and in limited cases.

2018-08-27 19:56:24 UTC

If you fix all the issues you set out to solve, you don't have a platform

2018-08-27 19:56:41 UTC

Modifying the 1st is dangerous. Just redefine "dogma" and watch as the SJWs silence dissent.

2018-08-27 19:56:50 UTC

And prob new problems arise

2018-08-27 19:57:15 UTC

is free speech not a political dogma?

2018-08-27 19:57:33 UTC

Political positions need to be public service and not a career

2018-08-27 19:57:51 UTC

Good luck with that.

2018-08-27 19:58:02 UTC

The public service is a huge and growing.

2018-08-27 19:58:08 UTC

You'd never pull it off.

2018-08-27 19:58:18 UTC

career politicians are a problem.

2018-08-27 19:59:04 UTC

would be interesting to see what would happen if all political positions had term limits.

2018-08-27 19:59:35 UTC

force career politicians to have to move around every 10 years or so

2018-08-27 20:00:06 UTC

That's more or less what would happen.

2018-08-27 20:00:16 UTC

You'd also have a number of lame ducks at any time mucking things up.

2018-08-27 20:00:34 UTC

We don't already?
