Mark, hard cases make bad law: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_cases_make_bad_law
Mark, the principle is one of the foundations of liberalism
and liberalism in the sense of liberalism not leftism
Liberals are against it now.
Since Trump is for it.
Mark, they are not liberals 😉
Well the modern liberals, not classical liberals.
Classical Liberals are cool.
Classical Liberals is a bit of misnomer
They are the liberals before the current crazy liberals came.
Modern Liberalism started with John Locke - more than 200 years ago
O.o
Mark, the people you USias call liberals are further to the left
Mark, and should rather call them leftists as a group than liberals
I used to be a liberal till they started becoming authoritative or I started noticing it for the first time, then I became a Libertarian Republican, but they are against ATheists.
Mark, but if someone is authoriarian they are really not liberal
So I became a Atheist, independent constitutionalist who stands by the constitution.
The US started misusing liberal around the time JFK died.
I think the current modern date "Liberals" are nothing but infiltrators.
Mark, Republicans in USA is a liberal conservative party: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_conservatism
Mark, the US left is turning away from liebralism - and it is not surprising that real liberals end up seeing republicans in a more favourable light IMO
WE can call ourselves libcons.
wood \o/
Independent Constitutionalist who is Atheist that leans right and supports the modern day Conservatives against the modern day Democrats/Far Left who became manipulating authoritarians.
I rather side with people who hate me as atheist but willing to defend my rights than people who love me as atheist but wants to take away my rights.
Basically that sums my stance at the moment, not to mention that Republicans are bringing back a prosperous United States under Trump which is definitely a huge plus in my book.
so just to be clear on this also - modern liberalism started with John Locke - who influenced USian revolutionaries: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Locke
> His writings influenced Voltaire and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, many Scottish Enlightenment thinkers, as well as the American revolutionaries.
The US constitution is a modern liberal constitution - it is just that in US liberal is used to refer to ideologies which is left of actual liberalism
Mark, do you know Douglas Murray?
Conservatives today are more inline with old Liberal ideology than the fact liberals today.
No I do not know Douglas Murray.
In this political climate the right is definitely more tolerant. I think the modern concenses of what a conservative is is changing.
Reason I haven't comment on anything about it yet.
As an atheist I've never felt as threatened by evangelical Christians as I do by leftists.
Exactly Dev.
Mark, man you must watch it: https://youtu.be/WmvPfbfzX4U?t=7846
Conservatives are becoming more open and tolerant than the apparent "Tolerant" party aka Democrats.
I never thought there would be a day that I would agree with conservatives...
And respect the conservatives, life sure does surprise you.
I am an agnostic who would love to have anarchism but that's not practical. I just want a government that doesn't feel the need to tell me what to do,.
Evangelicals will just come at you with whatever argument they just learned by reading CS Lewis. They won't try to murder you with a bike lock.
