yea ultimately
IDK. I've come to suspect that most politicians these days don't really matter that much individually.
They tend to just yield to the party when push comes to shove, particularly in the Democrats where the party has more levers of contorl.
its more the parties and the elites that tend to be the problem imo
Can agree a bit there.
well i worry that most say one thing then get in and do the completely opposite
^
god bless
ye thats a legitimate fear
especially nowadays
like as much as i think some of Bernies policies reek of socialism, he is at least principled
and sticks to them whenever possible
Perhaps. My concern at the end off the day is hard policy.
I don't like Sanders that much. I think he'd push very shortsighted socialist policies.
But Sanders is a has-been at this point.
The biggest issue i see with both parties and voters is the desire for instant results
thats why short term solutions are more frequent
I think it's that fundamentally, we tend to be voting on things in massive bundles and there's alot of stuff that the government just shouldn't be getting into in the first place. So they tend to do things poorly.
Some stuff should just be left to the states
Agreed. Most stuff, in fact.
the problem with this is when nothing is consistent
ie gun laws
People willl always make that complaint though.
my biggest gripe with gun laws is that they have little consistency between states
It's a way of imposing will.
Yeah, but would you want your laws dictated by someone really far away with very different values than you?
Like i mentioned previously regarding the environment, i think the government should provide basic standards at the least
Congress is elected the way it is for a reason
they might be more detached than our state reps/senators, etc. but the voters put them there
the issue is bureaucracy
its massive
Agreed.
and alot of it is red tape
But the reps and senators are a big mixed bag too.
And they can get rather creative.
oh i know
we need better ways to hold them acocuntable
Like Beto "I support the 2nd amendment" O'Rouke who signed onto that semi-auto ban that passed around Congress recently.
with the internet it should be easier
