Catching up on e ink being expensive, even if the patent was lost I don't think there would be much competition either
The market just isn't that big and it's getting smaller by the day with all the people using tablets (which are both cheaper and doing a lot more)
Only ~~faggets~~ people reading a lot or actually caring about having a 'high quality' reading experience go for e ink nowadays
That's fine m8
I have an "open source" one
Can't remember its name
Oh right
Touch Lux
I *think* it's custom whatever using a shit ton of open source
But take it with a pinch of salt
the point with it is you can customize it very easily (custom apps & shit) and it doesn't really care about locking you into proprietary format
Also physical buttons
(but also touch screen at the same time)
And kinda cheap, I think I got mine around 80 euromarks
The main problem is... well it's a hassle to read manga and such
I mainly read manga because I'm a *weeb*
Sure, whenever I read a *real book*, I like to read it on it
But for everything else, it's "meh" at best
Controls are unresponsive, zooming in is a royal PITA, and the DPI is not enough to be comfortable for reading small characters (and that happens a lot)
In the end I bought a Fire 8" HD (replaced my Fire 7 that I bought for 30 euromarks)
I only use this one
I use comicrack, synchronize what I read with my PC
And it just worksโข
And as much as I'd like to go full e-ink reading for my mangos, I just can't see it happening anytime soon
Those things run on potato CPU so any kind of image transformation is gonna be sluggish
And high DPI / big screen are way too expensive for that
I can do without color, though it would be a plus
But all those problems have been there since... well the first kindle
And I don't see those being fixed anytime soon
It's doable but it's not done, it's been technically feasible for years but nobody do that
And idk why
There's a market for that
Not a big one, yeah, but there's one
And battery life isn't that much of a big deal honestly
Sure, current e ink device can boast a week long autonomy
But if they slashed it to like even a few days, I'd be fine with that
If they put an actual decent CPU
Do you read books?
Not autistic stuff like mangas/manwha/comics
Yeah
In that case, buy an e-ink device
Don't waste 100+ whatever your currency is on it
Entry level kindle is usually fine if you can handle being part of Jeff's botnet
Some of them are hackable but iirc not all of them
idk what's the state of the kobo's market so I won't dwelve too much into it
I bought a Lux because I'm a hipster, it's great because it supports a wide range of file formats and can be customized with non-existent apps because nobody cares about it
Yeah well go for it then
It's good shit
You can usually find good deals on second hand ones
Just bear in mind that e-ink means no compulsory backlighting
Some entry level got no backlighting, meaning it's just like a book, you can't read it in the dark
(without external LรMP)
Though some of them can be fitted with led lighting
(in cases)
Kindle being one of the most popular e-ink devices you can pretty much find anything to customize it
Sticker ~~for added faggotery~~, cases, protections and such
And the older ones at least (dunno about the last gens) are very easy to service in case you're very clumsy
Remember when murican were laughing at EU for Article 13? Well, I certainly do hope they got a loicense for memeing https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2017/11/creating-copyright-court-copyright-office-wrong-move
@Matthew this article is from 2017 but its introduction into Congress is much more recent https://www.congress.gov/116/bills/hr2426/BILLS-116hr2426ih.pdf
Other than that you could just read books
The Bible would be a good start
Gotta feed that brainlet belly
@Matthew what's the title of the manga you posted a pic of yesterday? (<https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/531212403858472967/632333801070002186/Screenshot_20191011-164757.png>)
Also @thelizard
Not for motorcycle Cole
They need to do a lap with training wheels
Thanks Matt
Application user
We have named users for 'humans' and application users for application
And sometimes humans have to impersonate application users
I always had 2 accounts
Nah matt it's not for those driving too close but for the assholes that drive with high beam behind you
Sometimes they manage to blind me while being almost 100 meters away
And yes that's illegal to use high beam when someone is blatantly in front of you, but what are you gonna do?
Not sure if that's a good deal or not : https://www.banggood.com/NEJE-DK-8-KZ-1000mW-Blue-Violet-Laser-Engraving-Machine-Mini-Desktop-DIY-Engraver-Protective-Panel-p-1326301.html
45$ feels quite a bit low for something like that
Ah, maybe
Well 23โฌ rebate for a cookie is a fair trade to me
But well, that is if this thing is decent enough
Pretty much sure I can fetch those from one of my friends who work in labs
Though since I'm a bit paranoid I'll probably just put the device in another room when using it
So it's recycling, how kind of Chinks to reduce my carbon footprint even when I buy shit on the internets <:wholesomethonk:373550351082848267>
Moving out of the way sometimes doesn't work unless you just go sideway, wait for them to go ahead of you and then continue... and on a motorway that's not always doable particularly when there's traffic
And that unfortunately happens quite often since I'm in a quite congested part of the country
Sometimes I just pull the rearview mirror up in order not to be blinded by it but it's really not ideal as I'm still blinded by the side mirrors and I don't see shit behind anymore
Apparently they start at 4PM
For God knows reason
