I really want an android E-ink with a big screen, but anything with a decent size is $$$$

2019-06-27 13:16:34 UTC

I don't want it for books

2019-06-27 13:16:39 UTC

I prefer physical

2019-06-27 13:16:46 UTC

I want it for mango

2019-06-27 13:17:46 UTC

Yeah, gotta have a big screen to see it all at once

2019-06-27 13:18:54 UTC

I've read plenty of mango on my phone, and I don't want to get a dedicated reader just to have a screen that's 1" bigger, it's a waste

2019-06-27 13:19:49 UTC

But I also can't justify $500 for a 10 inch e reader just for Chinese newspaper comics

2019-06-27 13:20:07 UTC

Yeah tachiyomi is exclusively what I use for mango

2019-06-27 13:20:33 UTC

That's why I have a requirement of an *android* e-ink

2019-06-27 13:20:56 UTC

Because I'm not gonna go back to manually adding shit like some fucking caveman

2019-06-27 13:25:10 UTC

I don't run into low rez scans on tachiyomi enough for that to be a concern

2019-06-27 23:14:44 UTC

Catching up on e ink being expensive, even if the patent was lost I don't think there would be much competition either

2019-06-27 23:15:11 UTC

The market just isn't that big and it's getting smaller by the day with all the people using tablets (which are both cheaper and doing a lot more)

2019-06-27 23:15:47 UTC

Only ~~faggets~~ people reading a lot or actually caring about having a 'high quality' reading experience go for e ink nowadays

2019-06-27 23:15:57 UTC

hey fuck you

2019-06-27 23:16:05 UTC

i like my kindle a lot buddy

2019-06-27 23:16:12 UTC

That's fine m8

2019-06-27 23:16:19 UTC

I have an "open source" one

2019-06-27 23:16:32 UTC

elaborate

2019-06-27 23:16:51 UTC

Can't remember its name

2019-06-27 23:16:53 UTC

Oh right

2019-06-27 23:16:55 UTC

Touch Lux

2019-06-27 23:16:55 UTC

like, open source from the ground up? or custom firmware or something

2019-06-27 23:17:13 UTC

I *think* it's custom whatever using a shit ton of open source

2019-06-27 23:17:21 UTC

But take it with a pinch of salt

2019-06-27 23:17:41 UTC

i bought a kindle 4/5 NT used

2019-06-27 23:17:44 UTC

its pretty good

2019-06-27 23:17:48 UTC

like my physical buttons

2019-06-27 23:17:49 UTC

the point with it is you can customize it very easily (custom apps & shit) and it doesn't really care about locking you into proprietary format

2019-06-27 23:17:59 UTC

Also physical buttons

2019-06-27 23:18:11 UTC

(but also touch screen at the same time)

2019-06-27 23:18:23 UTC

And kinda cheap, I think I got mine around 80 euromarks

2019-06-27 23:18:38 UTC

the fact that i can't read epub is annoying but i just convert to epub or azw or whatever the new format is
i got mine for like £20 or something

2019-06-27 23:18:41 UTC

The main problem is... well it's a hassle to read manga and such

2019-06-27 23:18:58 UTC

yeah, i read oyasumi punpun on my k4 for some reason

2019-06-27 23:18:58 UTC

I mainly read manga because I'm a *weeb*

2019-06-27 23:19:12 UTC

also read junji ito's uzumaki

2019-06-27 23:19:24 UTC

Sure, whenever I read a *real book*, I like to read it on it

2019-06-27 23:19:25 UTC

it was eh

2019-06-27 23:19:40 UTC

But for everything else, it's "meh" at best

2019-06-27 23:20:32 UTC

Controls are unresponsive, zooming in is a royal PITA, and the DPI is not enough to be comfortable for reading small characters (and that happens a lot)
