The Department of Justice has made its formal request to the U.K. to extradite WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. The U.S. made this official extradition request to the U.K. last Thursday, June 6, according to โa U.S. official who spoke on background to discuss a sensitive matterโ as reported by the Washington Post.
The extradition treaty between the U.K. and the U.S., signed in 2003 and made effective in 2007, required that โthe formal request for extradition and the documents supporting the extradition requestโ had to be received within 60 days of Assangeโs arrest back on April 11.
The next extradition hearing had been scheduled for June 12, although WikiLeaks says it has been moved to June 14.

Nearly 1,700 Suspected Child Sex Predators Arrested During Operation โBroken Heartโ
The Department of Justice today announced the arrest of almost 1,700 suspected online child sex offenders during a two-month, nationwide operation conducted by Internet Crimes Against Children task forces. The task forces identified 308 offenders who either produced child pornography or committed child sexual abuse, and 357 children who suffered recent, ongoing or historical sexual abuse or were exploited in the production of child pornography.
The 61 ICAC task forces, located in all 50 states and comprised of more than 4,500 federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies, led the coordinated operation known as โBroken Heartโ during the months of April and May 2019. Updated: Jun 12, 2019 05:37 AM MST El PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The International Boundary and Water Commission has come to a temporary truce with 'We Build the Wall,' the group responsible for the construction of the half-mile-long border barrier on private land in Sunland Park, New Mexico.
Late Tuesday, IBWC sent a press release stating that effective immediately, they will begin locking the privately-owned gate that was installed on federal land without permission due to security concerns at night. An NYPD Officer took his life on Friday, the third member of the Department to do so in under two weeks. EMS was requested to the 121 Precinct in Staten Island at around 4:00PM, for reports of an officer with a gunshot wound. The officer was found shot in a parked vehicle behind the Precinct at 55 Wilcox Street near Sanders Street.
