Seems you're kind of screwed either way, though. Most people would just remain utterly ignorant without an education because they can' t figure it all out on their own. I know I certainly can't. But at the same time most take what they learn in school as what *is* true instead of the real lesson which is learning *why* it's supposed to be true.
To learn how to examine things critically. Of course my kids are homeschooled because the public education system is a freaking joke. At least there are *some* good colleges.
That would certainly be the biggest lie ever perpetrated, yea. I doubt most people questioned it.
Oh I think I got banned from the other room. ๐ฆ
I'm sorry to interrupt guys but if it says my invite to a server has expired does that mean a permanent ban?
Well maybe that's what happened then. Guess I can't get back in? Sorry I don't really use discord... ๐ฆ
I have no idea. It just went away suddenly.
Huh...seems like I'd been there longer than that. Guess not. Nevermind ya'll. My bad. :-p
@Reviire That's a bummer if that's what happened. I don't even know what I did. :-p
So if invites only last 24 hours am I about to get kicked out of here too?
Yea.
I got that impression. But I was polite. And friendly. Never got warned about anything. I was just gone. ๐
I doubt they agreed with anything I said. But I made it clear from the jump I was a glober.
Mainly I just got ridiculed. I'm just curious about this whole flat earth thing, man. It's fascinating.
Oh well. It's usually the same with these kinds of things. Flat/globe. Evolution/creation. Both sides misunderstand the other. I try to sort them both out.
@Moist Mayonnaise I mentioned CERN...
@Hugh Nah. But my buddy does. My academic career is a little too...shitastical...to work at CERN. ๐
Generally, yes. ๐
@Hugh I've been trying to get back into university but it's proving a hell of an uphill battle.
@I-VaPE-ChEMtrAiLS Park Ranger is my backup plan. Close enough, right? And I'll get to use firearms. :-0
๐
Thanks, mate. Never too late to go back to school, right?
Indeed. But my GPA is 0.2 so yea...most schools frown upon that. And I've run out classes to take at the community college.
GPR...whatever the crap it is now I dunno I don't pay attention to such things.
Physics. And maybe astronomy too. I'd like to work with radio telescopes.
I'd get a masters in radio astronomy but getting into grad school will be even tougher than undergrad. And at least I'd have a physics degree since those are just the *most* useful things... ๐
Shhhh. Is secret. We don't want them to run out of money.
'ello
I know this is why ya'll call me brainwashed because I only see a particle accelerator.
Ya'll crazy. :-p
!rank
@The Gwench Howdy. ๐
@realFlatEarther I know you can draw 6's on there if you want to but I mean that's also kinda what the particle accelerator looks like so I mean doesn't it seem at least *possible* it's just coincidence? They just changed it a little to make it look more spiffy and artsy or something I guess but it's still pretty obvious what it is. I mean the first time I saw it I looked at for a while and said "Oh...it's a particle accelerator! That makes sense. Clever."
No. it's more like 666666
Yea. I guess it's buy one get one day in Hell.
Wait...I might have forgotten one. Might be 6666666. I can't remember. ๐
Also in their logo there's 5 6's. I wouldn't be able to get past that I think. That would be dealbreaker for me.
Well either way I just still can't get past the fact that there's five of them. Even if I believed CERN were in league with Satan i'd still point out that there's too many of them. So it wouldn't count. bah dum tsssst.
Do we have an emoji for setting my head on fire?
Is there anywhere I can get a more detailed breakdown of the roles? I feel like "mainstream" might be accurate but I don't really follow the media and government too much. Just mainstream science.
@Soldz (CF) Thanks, mate.
Wait...why would the sun have a tail? I'm so confused. :-p
I gathered as much in this context but is that a real meme though? Like is that a legit question that people have asked? Poe's law is a killer when it comes to flat earth.
Honestly I don't care how much it looks like the Earth is flat because I'm going to need a *lot* of evidence to abandon my main man Einstein. It just seems far too many flat earthers easily dismiss his work without too much thought and focus on the globe. I guess I look a this whole thing backwards to most folds.
Maybe. Although to be fair most people that defend the globe don't understand it worth a damn either. :-p
You don't need to understand it to live your life really. But like honestly when people say "gravity doesn't exist" I get the impression that they don't know even 1% of the implications of that. Like honestly I'm not super attached to the globe but I'd have so many question I'd need answers to before I'd accept relativity and all that quantum nonsense aren't accurate. Because that would be probably the luckiest guess in the history of our planet, you know?
yo
@dumblebore ๐ I gotta say I'm glad I joined the discord scene though. Even if I don't agree with them on anything I've found a couple people around here that I can at least respect their beliefs, you know? And I've heard some new ideas which is exciting. ๐
Where does most of the voice chatting go on?
Oh. le sigh
@The Gwench I hope so. That'd be fun I think. There's a lot of stuff holding me back from accepting this flat earth thing. I've got like 10 million questions and the resources I've found are starting to let me down.
How do ya'll feel about the Thunderbolts project?
To be fair it's pretty much exactly the time to bring it forward whether it's true or not. A lot of people would rather never deal with it again unless it's really, really worth it.
That simulation earther role...is that like just a hardcore belief we live in a simulation or does it also apply to the whole "if a simulated universe is possible then we're maybe/probably one of countless nested realities but so what it doesn't really affect anything"?
I kinda feel like it isn't the second one.
Solid discussion...racism is lamesauce. ๐
My first ban. Do I get a trophy? ๐
I know those people are really, really ban happy over there but I gotta admit it was pretty damn epic honestly. Even or that place. I've gotten a lot of messages from people about it. Of course I'd find a way to get banned in the most ridiculous way humanly possible. ๐
So where do we go to argue with people around here?
@Credibly Charted If I'm being perfectly blunt there is no real way a flat earther and a globe earther can have anything even resembling an actual debate. That's not an attack on either group. It's just the nature of the beast.
@jeremy Both sides have their own separate issues to be sure. You're doing a pretty good job demonstrating one of your sides biggest ones right now.
But that's not what I mean. It's because every single debate can only go one possible way.
- Flat Earther - "The globe is complete nonsense. It makes absolutely no sense! Can you explain to me how "X" could possibly work? It violates every law of physics known to man!"
- Globe earther - "Gravity"
@Credibly Charted Wait are you talking to me?
I really like talking to flat earthers. And to be honest I'm genuinely curious about a lot of the things they believe. But I'm just getting burned out, man.
It's literally the same conversation over and over and over.
@โงMike Flatbird (Mike Blackbird)โง I haven't seen specify "physical life" before. What does that mean?
@โงMike Flatbird (Mike Blackbird)โง OK that's actually really funny. ๐
If you're specifying physical life I have no idea what non-physical life would even be. I'll listen if you want to explain it.
I'm with you now.
Like multiple spatial dimensions?
Yea. I'm with you on that too.
So what's the 2nd biggest flat earth server?
@Derek Nelson Why is the quote attributed to someone different than the person in the picture?
@Derek Nelson That picture you posted is a complete fabrication. I searched up multiple papers he's published with his work on why gravity works. He's like one of the leading researchers in the field working on gravity. Why you lyin
@Derek Nelson What are you talking about? I'm looking at a paper that man has published on gravity. And that quote isn't even by him, my dude.
Source please.
I'm serious. I'll apologize for accusing you of lying if you can give me a source.
That's not a source.
You don't have to apologize for anything. You didn't accuse me of lying. Maybe that's too harsh. I'm accusing you of using falsified evidence probably by someone else. Maybe you didn't do it on purpose. I'll go ahead and apologize for calling you a liar. But you're still wrong. So back up your argument and give me a source.
Also that quote is attributed to someone that all I can find about them is a flat earth twitter account.
It actually says in the picture you posted that it isn't real.
I'm just giving you the benefit of the doubt that you'd have noticed that and had a reason to go ahead and post it anyway.
Did you actually listen to what he said? You didn't did you?
Because I did. And he's not saying what you think he's saying.
No you misunderstand completely. Hes saying there is something that does all the things gravity is said to do. Works exactly like gravity is said to work. But it isn't what the people in the past thought it was.
The models are all still true.
Yes. About what Einstein thought gravity *was*. Not what it *did*.
Einstein was wrong about a lot of stuff, my dude.
But his model still works.
Its just the thing that makes it work if different from what he thought.
I want to go back to if you still think he said that quote you posted.
Because he didn't.
He also said in the video repeatedly that you can observe *something* doing all the things Einstein said gravity would do. Its just different from what Einstein thought it was.
Also you do know what a quote is, right? Actual words a person said? Not something that agrees with what you think they said?
He said like 5 times he's measured it and observed it...
What are you expecting exactly? With a powerful enough microscope you'd see tiny little guys pushing things??
Sure. Get a job working as researcher and use their equipment.
@Derek Nelson Science makes mistakes. You do realize that what happened there was that everything worked exactly as they predicted but they couldnt observe what was producing the gravity, right?
