I don’t get that video either, it shows an explanation of refraction with sunlight and just pokes fun at it instead of explaining why it’s wrong.

Light travelling in a straight line and light refracting are not separate models...

Light speeds up/slows down when it traverses different mediums, hence the change in direction

The atmosphere has a gradient in terms of density, so light is continuously refracted and hence the curved path

You can literally see the ridiculous amount of atmospheric distortion in that video, but no, the atmosphere is playing no part and the light is travelling in undistorted straight lines, clearly the horizon is further beyond and the globeheads are wrong...any explanation of this is POST HOC!!

To be completely honest, I don’t have a perfect explanation for how those oil rigs are visible. But, I’d love to find out why...my first conclusion is not that there’s some global conspiracy of the earth being flat and that all of science is wrong. If the earth were flat in this case, surely I could see much further?
